When we were young the entire fishing fleet drank every penny they earned (and we did earn silly money then) But a mate of mine who was lent the owners Quattro for a week full on quit drinking until he could buy it
The SWB versions were a limited edition and quite different to the first road models. They were all red, around £50k each IIRC and just enough built purely for homologation reasons to qualify for the WRC. They spawned the era of the group B machines and had a unique wonderful engine note that makes the hairs on the back of you neck stand up. When Walter Rohl took one to Pikes Peak for the first time they weren’t expected to do much with the ‘puny’ 2.1 litre engine until he took about 3mins off the record! When the class was banned a few years later the remaining Metro 6R4’s were all sold off for £14k!
