Drawers and CB

Today i started to fit some of my resent purchases first was the CB radio and SWR meter
from 4x4cb and then the Drawers i got from Ebay.Fitted some 3"x1" aluminium to the floor and then drilled and tapped and bolted the drawes to it. Yes the cables are for the inverter.The cable routing is through the engine bulkhead drivers side there is a large gromet you can feed through.Down to the floor behind the instrument panel,remove lower kick plate and kick plates on the floor in the door wells there is a cable way there lay the cables in it.Then remove rear seat belt anchour point this allows you to remove the moulding on the rear door unbolt the parcel shelf holder and remove side panel in lugage area feed cable round. Thats it replace all parts as removed.
Hope this helps i can take some pics if it helps but dont want to remove all panels again.

Sounds almost exactky the same routing as on a 120.

What size copper cable?

A frind of mine went to Halfrauds a good while ago to buy some "heavy duty" jump leads.
On first looking at them they looked great !
And the sale was made.

When I had a look at the copper content, oh my god, I guess it may have beem 4mm
The rest being taken up with just insulation, which must have been a good 3mm thick.

Of course, PVC insulation is significantly cheaper than copper.
To a lot of unsuspecting buyers, they looked heavy duty, but were rubbish actually.

The cable is 35mm Tri rate that i had left over from a customers job so no cost to me,This will feed the lesiure battery bank via a 180 amp fuse and a voltage sensing relay, Then the battery bank will be feeding the inverter,Installed the 240v sockets and wirring today,

Hi Munster

Just a couple of points !

You don't need to leave the SWR Meter in line,you can get losses with the extra sockets etc, also
there is a much easer way to run the cable (I know its too late for you) but drop it down from the
battery, along the chassis leg to the back and up into the rear panelling, and attach with cable ties
but keep away from any heat or chance of rubbing.

I have done it this way on numerous vehicles, including cable of 50mm for a socket for a winch.

Should you keep the SWR meter inline?

When there was a CB licence (abolished in 2006), they reccomended that SWR meters should only be used to check your antenna system, and then removed to minimise any chance of interference. I feel that this is more relevant to base stations causing TV interference than it is to people in vehicles, so I recommend having one inline permanently - if you have the space for it.

The advantage with this is that if anything in the aerial system becomes damaged, or your ground connection goes bad, you will know about it much quicker than you would if you had to wait until you got home to check your SWR. This could prevent you damaging your set.

The metal case of the basic SWR meter we sell can be easily removed by undoing 2 screws. This can then be drilled through and mounted flush on a surface, and the meter put back together again - an ideal way of saving space, and securing it inside or outside a cubby box for example.

Never had a CB before so just did as it says above right or wrong

You definitely won't cause any interference by leaving it in line, I have been dabbling in Radio's for 30 years
and never left it in line,and never had a problem.

Bit of an update ,got a few more bits done ,batterys wiring and inverter.Will install split charge relay tomorrow wheather permiting.
