[ELCO Digest]

Hi Adrian,
Someone like TBR UK (http://www.tbruk.net) may be able to get something for
you, or find out the part numbers and go to Toyota direct.
As for breakers, nobody specialised in 80, so keep an eye on Ebay or use
one of the online services that sends out a message to all the big scrap
yards.

Hi there Guys - I have an annoying problem on the landcruiser. She is a 4.5
VX 80 series. When you are driving empty the car is great but when the car
is loaded everytime i go over a bump in the road i am getting and feeling a
thud from underneath rear end. The people in the back seat say they can feel
the thud so sounds like something is bottoming out on the suspension or
something.
Have any of you any ideas what the route cause might be. The car has been up
to the local garage today to make sure there is noting loose under the car
and there appears to be nothing loose.
Please help. We are meant to be going away soon towing a caravan and need to
know what could be the cause.
PS i towed the caravan today and it makes it more frequent (the noise) So
sounds like its happening when the suspension is compressed then hitting the
bump in the road.
Hope you can help - You always have in the past. Ps if you think its the
shockers or coils then where is the best place to buy them as milners do not
list for the 4.5 only the 4.2?
Kind regards to one and all

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your reply: I will see what is outthere and then start the
budgeting...
A note of interest: my toyota was sourched from japan direct, infact I have
the whole service history sheets in japanese from new, but I understood that
it was an "export" specs; not sure what it actually meant in terms of haves
and haves-not.
More at a later stage.
Best wishes,
Stefano

Subject: [ELCO] some more bad luck
Hi Guys
I have recently had some more of this bad luck which seems to attach itself
to me.
My PC decided to start smoking three weeks ago which started with smoke
coming out of the mouse and then out of the PC itself.
So after a new hardrive, motherboard and power unit which had all burnt out
I am slowly getting up and running.
The problem is that im no better at working on the PC than the Cruiser.
I lost nearly all the info I had stupidly kept on the PC without having it
backed up on CD.
So to come to the point, I have lost most of my cruiser info and every thing
else going back years, of all sorts including programs etc.
So dont be too hard on me when I ask questions to which you think or know I
had the info from previous asked questions.
Even all my addresses and contacts are gone
These answers are now all gone and my memory is crap so thats no help at
all.
Also sorry Julian if its in HTML.
cheers

I am very tempted to fit an aftermarket turbo, but I am worried about:

Has anybody had made this type of up-grade?
Which turbo? What else is to be considered?

Stefano, further to Julian's comment. I would suggest that to get in
touch with some Oz 80 owners you had also better join the Lcool
international list and then look through the archive. Most of us here
also subscribe to Lcool and it is a very useful resource. Most TLC's
in Oz are diesel and there were plenty of 1HZ 80's imported as well
as countless 70 series with the engine. In fact it is coming back
again in a slightly modified form in a new 'ute' model. They are a
typically gregarious bunch with a sense of humour that Brits
understand, but you will see the Americans are sometimes given a hard
time in their many discussions. So you may take a while to understand
the many quips. But seriously they are mostly very good engineers
and most of them have tried most tricks with the 1HZ. If you can't
find enough in the archive then just post a query even aiming it at
the Oz fraternity in the subject line, and you will get a very
helpful response. And surprise surprise, a lot of them will recommend
mods supplied by Maarten at AAI. As Julian said, he is the best for TLC
mods.
We also have a very experienced TLC technician on this list residing
in NZ who also posts to the Lcool - Craig Vincent, though he has been
quiet for a while. Are you out there Craig ?
Its interesting that you sourced a 1HZ engined 80 that came from the
UK. They were never sold with that engine in the UK and not in Japan
either - from where most imports arrive into the UK. The 1HZ mostly
gets into Europe via the 70 series of which new models are still sold
at least in Germany. So anyway, its nice to know that I am not alone
with my 1HZ powered 80 on this list !

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for all that, I'll see if the budget can stretch to the above.
Out of interest do the Jap models come with the 3rd row of seats, the Jap 80 series tend not to.
We definitely need 7/8 seats, preferably 8.

Julian,
Not sure about the imports but I had a 2002 UK Colorado and it
had Eight seats, the Amazon, and my sons UK 80 series, only have
Seven.

Hi Clive,
OK. I've yet to work out a pattern with the 3rd row of seats - my '94
80 is classed as an 8 seater and I have also come across 100 series
with 8 seats.
Certainly, 80s and 100s are available with 5,7,8 and 10 seat
configurations.

Hello the guys well I am confuse because this sujet is *RE: [ELCO] [ELCO
Digest] * but what this is about any way? Why is not Jap Pardo KDJ 90's the
sujet?

Hi Benoit,
Many people are on a Daily Digest where they receive a single message
each day containing all the messages from the list for that day.
When they reply to a message, they should change the subject line to be
the same as the message they are replying to, however usually they
forget so when they reply it picks up the subject for the daily digest

Hi Dave,
I'm already watching it, my second Milner one is chattering so I think a
reserve one might be a good idea.

Hi Chas,
I'm just in the process if returning a Milner starter - initially I thought
it was the solenoid, but it's the actual starter just ground to a halt.

Chris,
Yes, but that's not enough for 2300 km between refueling and assuming
5km/L (20L/100km) fuel consumption in the Great Sand Sea / Gilf Kebir
part of the Sahara.
There may be more options for each entry. I'd suggest first to explain:
- how are you going to use your LC (competition off-roading,
greenlaning, overlanding (where, for how long), daily transport...)?
- what's your realistic budget?
- DYI or pay someone else?
- how much time to carry out the mods?

Hi Guys
Just caught the end of that line. You may NOT legally use more than a 55watt
headlight bulb on any EUROPEAN road. Furthermore your MOT inspector will
notice and may fail your test.
ALL other bulbs are also stipulated by law as to the maximum wattage.
You will also invalidate your insurance.
Think very carefully.

Julian et al. The window runs are not costly. But they are market
