Had a question paper which was a version of the initial test I had to do to qualify.
A non start which I took the wrong path to start with. I thought electrical until I realised there was an engine on a stand, it was there to represent the engine in the car if you wanted to strip it!! Started to look mechanical found something but not the cause.
An electric steering lock not working causing engine start issues, car was in bits with the brief a colleague had already started on it!! Found multiple issues so hopefully. Did enough.
A car that the diagnosis equipment couldn't communicate with, had to set it up manually which wouldn't bring up the correct wiring diagram, head was a mess by then (last of the day) but found a problem with the BUS network, ruled out the control unit and was into the wiring but ran out of time. Might of done enough and think I was nearly there with it.
A customer handling situation with a rather irate female customer who's 2 month old car has been in but no faults found with a warning light. Basically had to calm her down, get as much info about the fault and de stress her!! Like dealing with the wife lol.
A coaching one where you coach an apprentice how to check and adjust valve timing, I got a really good apprentice which helped!!
All of which at work would be so straight forwards but pure stress and pressure really gets to you, they really make you think outside the box which hopefully I was! First attempt and they don't expect a first time pass and I can see why lol. Master tech at my work took 2 attempts and he called me yesterday asking if I'm drained and come down now!!
End of the day no one has forced me to have a go and pass or not I feel positive about the whole day.
