Is Land Cruiser 200 still worth keeping and repairing

The state of those rear ram shrouds, the blown AHC pipe, and the few rusty bits of brake pipe are imo signs of Toyota bean counters cutting back on rust prevention coatings on newer trucks.
My thoughts on the problems with newer vehicles.... not in Toyota's interest to make a vehicle that will last 20 or 30 years anymore.....they could make a fantastic vehicle with little or no rust issues for at least 25 years... the tech to do so has been around for years.....
I do wonder if Toyota were affected by steel supplied from Kobe that was not to spec.... it could explain sudden rise in rust issues and for sure Toyota would never admit they had an issue

I will again write to Toyota and ask if it’s a quality issue. I read that 2014 year manufactured 200 series are the best ones with least issues

I copied all repair suggestions from this thread , added some consumer rights act references and sent a 2 page email to dealer to repair/replace or refund on Monday. He agreed to take the car and get all repairs done. I tried to persuade him to get it repaired at Trevors or any LC specialist of his choice but he said he has mechanics on his wages so prefer to get it done at his garage.
only concern is he doesn’t reply to email, he calls me every day after I sent email n updates me what he is planning, when n how he ll take car etc
Raj - is nothing else, request that he takes photos throughout any remedial work. It costs him nothing to do this, so it shouldn't be an issue. If he refuses... well that tells you enough eh? Good luck mate, hope it all works for you.

I posted a link a while back about a recall by Toyota regarding a rust issue.

A good result so far, Raj. A bit of an about turn from his original response of shying away because "others had looked at it, and may have damaged it".
Let's hope he now honours his intention of repairing it properly, and not throw that load of old cobblers back again. Just clutching at straws to put you off.
If it's his intention to only phone you and not reply to messages, maybe so there is no record of what was said, record them.
Good luck and a happy outcome Raj.

Progress - hopefully

BTW that Disco 4 has some bling Kahn wheels for a recovery truck, also note the (not so bling) wing mirrors.

Ya the person who came told he like LCs n was wondering why he has to recover this car. That disco has Kahn badge n those sport car style tyres. May be using as family car as well

"he doesn’t reply to email" a big red flag for me , not committing himself to any actions .Telephone conversations are hearsay unless recorded and even then can be dismissed by a court. As Dave said ask for photos.

It’s difficult situation. Hope it ll get repaired as, if dealers want they can do same repair at much less price so its worth getting repaired than taking return.

I think I'd still get some independent advice as to what your options are. At the moment you are having to trust the untrustworthy dealer that he will repair the vehicle properly. The further you go down that road, the more difficult it will be to change direction if it all starts going wrong. Getting the repairs checked by a third party, even if you have to pay, would be worthwhile. If the garage refuses to let you do this, it would ring a few alarm bells.

I agree, I am also thinking of getting it checked straight away after I receive the car back. In fact m thinking of two checks. One technical report from an ombudsman approved garage and one from one of LC experts. Found one in Oxford- TJ Hall & Sons motor engineers. This is accredited by motor ombudsman.

Apart from the damage shown in the video the car is in very good condition underneath. Mine was about the same except for the shocks which I replaced because they were leaking. Keep the AHC if you want to keep originality. I want my AHC because it makes a difference if it's set correctly for towing. See if the dealer will pay for the repairs. I have just had mine all undersealed properly so I don't expect any problems for years. If the rest of the vehicle is really good it will be worth at least what you paid for it. I looked at Autotrader for years before buying mine. There weren't any going for less than 25k. I am keeping mine for as long as possible because of its towing capacity and performance.

These are overpriced, which is still acceptable but customers should atleast get reliable cars. There is no difference between a disco and land cruiser. It’s damaging Land cruiser reputability

What do you mean? Land Rovers and Land Cruisers are close only in terms of off road capabilities, not reliability or durability....

i despise Toyota, They made One half decent Truck between 1990 and 1998 and that's it....The rest is No different to any other 4x4 King of the road rubbish that's out there........ If you ever get your Money back, Get your self a decent Range Rover...

There is an episode on The Fast Lane Daily Off Road channel on YouTube. These guys were given a Land Rover Defender for review.... It broke, so they were given a second Defender. This one had electronic/electric issues, so it was replaced by a third brand new Defender.... This would not happen with a Land Cruiser, mate! I had a friend who passed away. He had a Discovery from the 90s. It was capable off road but not very reliable....

Hi Jake/Dear all thank you for your advices and support. Finally my LC came back. Just now parked n came in.

Finally got my car back. As expected the dealer didnt give me any paper work of whats done but told he did all the work I requested except rust underseal. Now suspension is working without warning light. He fixed the leak in AHC, replaced the suspension pipe that broke, filled new suspension fluid, fitted new suspension at the back and fixed the main issue. He told he did checked and removed rust from calipers and cleaned rust from underside. He wanted to do the bitumen black underseal and finish the job tidy but I asked him not to do that and booked appointment with Krown on July 18.
He didnt charge me anything for repairs done so I guess its now a happy ending as I sat there, had a tea and talked to him before driving back. Its resolved without any friction.
Before driving the car properly, I will get the car checked perfectly and update it to stock perfect condition as needed now.
