Finally got round to fitting the winch mount Gary (J66P) made for me.

It's Spectactular and I am really pleased with how it looks

First off strip out bull bars, grill and bumper

The end of the chassis rails have to be removed, 12mm Socked with extension through the hole in the front, Then the existing recovery eyes need to be removed, 17mm socket, Had to use the big wheel brace socket and plenty of free up to get these out.

The bottom of the plate on the end of the chassis rail has to be ground away to leave it flush with the rail.

Mount the plate using the existing recovery point mountings and bolts

Install winch and trim bumper to fit.

I just removed the whole bottom portion of the bumper as the bull bars hide everything really well

looks like it was made to fit the gap in the bull bar    that was a bit of luck I recon cos never even took the bull bar models into account

Glad you are pleased with it Chris, rock rails next i am thinking

A little OT - Chris, do you not think Plod will be concerned about your X-lites (spotlights) obscuring the front numberplate?

:?: :?: :?:

Have moved numberplate just below the lights now, just stuck it there to get a better pic of the mount ect.

If the bull bars hadn't have fitted thy would have gone back on the bay, but i do like the look with them on so I'm glad that they do.

Definatly sliders next, well apart from the snork sat in shed waiting to go on

The mount fits in really well Chris - looking forward to seeing how the snorkel fits. Will you be the first to fit one of these Alien schnorks??

Cheers

Hoping to get schnork on before the weekend, got a little time off work.

Have been looking at sae70's post on his safari one and it does look very very similar, will prob use that as my fitting guide

Don't suppose anyone knows the best place for shackles and also what sort of size I should be going for???

I got my last set of shackles from Screwfix, but that was because I could not be bothered to wait for delivery. Search online there are lots of companies who will supply these.

These are the chaps that I've used over the years http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Galvanized-Specialists

They also have a proper commercial web site as well as the eBay thing, but eBay just seems easier to me :)

Don't go wild all you need is two 20mm 'D' shackles & one 20mm 'BOW' shackle to get you started

If you have a Hi-Lift jack then an M12 'D' shackle is a handy thing to have as a saftey pin :)

Get yourself onto Dave Bowyer's Goodwinch web site http://www.dborc.co.uk/goodwinch/ and have a read through some of his learn with Dave topics, there's alot of very interesting information there
