JB's exhaust questions

JB,
I see someone at last answered your question on the 80 list.
I am sure that you would have seen water exiting your exhaust especially
when running cold.
Something I have done for years with new exhausts is to drill a 3mm hole in
the lowest part of each can, which is usually at the rear end of each. This
does not increase the rate of corrosion but it certainly provides an outlet
for the condensate thus reducing internal corrosion from liquid acid. All
the diesels I have had after making this mod, all seem to have failed
eventually on the pipe bends, rarely have I seen a rusted out can.
Just a thought.
Cheers

Jon,
Not knowing the history of the LC I have I can't be sure how old was
the exhaust system when it came up for replacement. The fact is that
the pipes rusted through, mainly near the welds, but the cans were in
pretty good shape and were reused. Drilling the holes looks like a
neat idea.
