Hi all,

We have a KZJ78 Landcruiser which we love but we are worried that there might be an ATF leak. We have been advised to check the correct level first but we understand that each model has its own specific method of checking.
Could anyone help?

Thank you :)

Usually you do it warm with the engine running and AT in neutral. Then dip wipe dip as per oil.

The dipstick may have cold and hot markings. Best to do it warm with the hot markings.

Doing it with the engine off is pointless and will give you massively incorrect readings as the ATF will have drained out of the trans and torque converter into the pan.

If you need to add ATF you use a funnel and do it via the dipstick tube.

Usually it's on the dipstick plastic - a lot of Toyota ATs of this vintage used Dex II and III, usually indicated by T-II or T-III.
