LJ70 Build Thread!

And the back page too!!! Plus your writeup in the middle... It should have been 'Ben & LJ's' issue rather than 'June 2013'

Congrats Ben - all change, and hopefully for the better

Enjoy your hols!

Been away for a few days, so just caught up with all your changes Ben! Good move and well done for doing what you do best, being tenacious and grabbing opportunities as they present themselves.

All the best for the new job!

Thanks guys.

Didnt notice the pic on the last page Gav. Wonder if our club will get much/any more traffic with the URL in the middle of the pic.

Club members also get a proper printed version of the magazine. The meeting was last night so Michael picked up my copy for me, as obviously I'm in Byron Bay. :icon-biggrin:

Its 4 years since I was last here and I'm still in love with the place.:icon-cool:

Anyway...................we couldn't get a LandCruiser for our hire car.

The only 4wd they had was an X-Trail. Which I've driven before so we went for a Ford Falcon XR-6. Its a 4 litre turbo charged V6 petrol.

Its pretty quick!

But very tail happy on wet roundabouts with all that power through the rear wheels, especially with the traction control turned off. :icon-twisted:

Off to Nimbin today. :violin:

Go steady, Chris from FNB has one as a loan car, and I borrowed it when Betsy had her new bar upgrade! PDQ!

I like it.

I didn't think it would be possible to redline it in every gear with it being an auto, I'd have thought it would change before that point but it doesn't.

I like the tiptronic option. Locking it in 2nd gear it seems to pull really well all they way up to 110kmh at which point it hits the rev limiter and needs knocking into 3rd. :icon-twisted:

We timed the 0-100kmh (0-60mph) and found it was about 8 seconds. :icon-biggrin:

Will have to try again, maybe its my driving.

Its difficult to get the power down from a standing start without wheel spinning. Would be better if it was manual and not auto I think.

8secs is a bit slow, our 2.5 XT subaru forester does 0-60 in under 6 seconds

On paper times and real world times are always hard to match up! I think the official time for the XR6T is 5.6seconds. Definitely not slow!

Hi Ben like it I had a 1979 2.0 ceilca GT and it redline in all gears it went off the speedo at 135 mph I love it tonytoyota have a good one .

One of the lads I know drags his VX Commodore; his reckoning is that the Auto is better than the manual for it because it keeps the power down longer between shifts. I think he may have changed the stall limiter as well.

Is that Foulcan an XR6 or XR6T? (Oh, and Ford uses a straight 6, Holden uses the bent 6)

Auto boxes with a turbo is also well matched .. the turbo doesn't spool down between gear changes.

Good call XR6 vs XR6T .. just assumed it was the T

My mate seems to think its supercharged and not turbo charged. Haven't looked under the bonnet yet, might have a peak later.

Its bloody thirsty so I wouldn't want one as a daily drive.

Great as a fun/holiday car though.

I'd love to do a track day in it but cant seem to find anywhere round here. :icon-biggrin:

The weather is perfect.

Spent most of yesterday in the sea. :icon-cool:

Might be leaving Byron today and heading to the Gold Coast for the next couple of days. Hoping to hire some jet ski's. :icon-cool:

Ben, have you ever been to the "best of all" lookout point near Springbrook? It's right on the border between Qld and NSW and looks south over NSW - on a clear day you can pick out Nimbin and Byron Bay, and you can see how the whole area is one gigantic crater. Pretty spesh.

It's pretty cool up there; the other good bit is staying in the QLD National Park's campsite next to O'Reilly's for a lot less than staying at O'Reilly's... also there's a 4x4 track straight up the hill instead of up the bitumen.

We've just picked up our car:
1992 Toyota VZJ130 4Runner, 253,000km (every sheet for services going back to 40,000km) manual gearbox and hubs, working back window and bone stock otherwise.

Not a 'Cruiser, but for $3000 I'm not complaining too much...

How did the North Coast go?
