New 80 series front springs fitted to Fierys rear end

Sorry, been out all day doing family things with the wife and kids. It's been a lovely day, out and about bathed in sunshine with a nice meal this evening :icon-smile:

I didn't have a chance to have a route under the truck before going out this morning, but looking at the HQ version of the photo you picked out Roger I couldn't see any crack in the spring seat or the welds. It then occurred to me that it may be an April fool joke, but clearly not  Would have been a good one though :icon-biggrin: :icon-wink:

She is pretty tatty underneath, but it's all surface with nowt structural or to be concerned about, shes only just had an MOT that lasts 13months. I used to be worried about the condition of the back axle when I first bought her as it is very scabby, but again its as thick as Rhino skin underneath. She doesn't live by the sea, but she's had a hard life over the last couple of years having fun with me and the kids and is 16 years old with 170000miles under her belt! I'd like to see how much body work and welding a LR of similar age and mileage would have had by now

No problem Steve. It can be difficult to interpret a photo that can only be two dimensional.

One other thing that came to mind though, is the need to slacken off all the suspension mounting point bolts and allow the suspension to settle into it's new position before re-tightening them. This way the twisting load on the void bushes is eliminated. If you leave it as is, the extra load will probably shear the rubber and destroy the bushes and they aren't cheap.

Ok, found a tape measure......

My truck has the IM suspension lift (B I think) and also has 30mm bodylift spacers. With no load:

Front 360mm
Rear 370mm

Thought I'd add to this, as I've found some good info over at the 4runner forum, where a lot of people are using the 80 series front springs at the rear of there 4runners (3rd gens).

It seems that from factory, Toyota made various lengths springs, which is a little strange. Here are the details.

Height of spring/color code/wraps
  • 21" Blue Pink White 9.25 wraps
  • 21" Grey Orange White 9.25 wraps
  • 20.25" Blue Yellow White 8.75 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450
  • 19.5" Green Yellow White 8.25 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450
  • 19.5" Purple Green White 8 wraps
  • 19.25" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps
  • 19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps
  • 18.5" Double Pink Grey White 7.5 wraps
  • 18 7/8" Orange Orange White 7.75 wraps

This means depending on what used springs we use, will gain different results. I'm currently in the market for some 7 wrap coils, which from my readings will net me about 2.5-3 inches of lift. Would have been interesting to know the length of the coils Steven stuck on.

What happened to Steven ?
Don't think I have seen him post in years ?

I should be able to help with that in the New Year. I've a new rear axle casing to put onto Fiery before selling, so the springs will be out during that process and I'll run a tape measure along.
