Yes but there was an earlier comment that you need to change a synthetic at
500 miles because it cleans the engine - then there was the comment not to
use a flushing oil because it cleans the engine. Hence if the result is the
same and considered risky you shouldn't change!
Personally I think safest is to stick with the oil type and grade
recommended by the manufacturer unless many have gone before and published
results.

Hi Julian,
Always in need of serious off road adventures but not Salisbury
unless we had huge amounts of wet weather beforehand. The last trip
was great but only because it was such a beautiful day and the
countryside looked fab. There was only one puddle of interest!
Should we not head for a day on a purpose built course where our
driving skills would be tested?
A day of winching out of serious mud would also be good......hard to
find in the uk i know....

Hi Guys,
Having a Toyota 4x4 Show sounds a good idea to me. I'm all for putting Land Cruiser enthusiasts together.
On another subject, was there ever a short wheel based version of the VX80 built with similar axle and suspension layout as a two door?

Hi Julian,
To attract new members to the club why don't we print
small club leaflets with the club info such as, tech
forum, benefits, contacts, events, etc and issue them
to the Landcruiser owners when we see them in car
parks, etc. In this way we will have more members
joining the club and we can even host our own 4x4 show
(similar to the Land Rover show) with Toyota's help.
The show will be a good place for Toyota to demo their
new 4x4's capabilities (Like the Land Rover
experience's demos in Land rover show).
In September last year there was an all marques 4x4
show in Worcestershire. Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo and
Isuzu were some of the marques I saw in the show. They
are demoing their 4x4's on the offroad course. We can
take part in this one with Toyota's help. The
organizer's web site is http://www.the4x4show.co.uk.
But when I checked the website today I had a "504
Gateway Timeout" error. I don't know why. Worth
checking it again next week.
Let us know what your thoughts on this.

Hi David,
At this stage I think it is unlikely to happen - too many costs
involved, but I will certainly be pushing ahead for weekend events.
No, the 80 series was only ever available in a long wheelbase format.

Hello David,
With your experience in the field, perhaps you could give us a few
ideas about a show or at least a side act at a 4x4 show?
BTW, do you do any gear specifically for Landcruisers?

Hi Sripadmanaban,
I've been chatting to the chap that used to organise the Jeepfest
weekend which is a bit of a cross between and offroading weekend and a
show.
For 200-400 vehicles he estimates the running costs for such an event
would be in the region of ?15,000 which will need to be passed on to
those attending and also it took about 1-2months of his time (unpaid).
With those sort of costs and involvement it is just too much hassle -
now if we had a 1000 members on this list, then it would be more
feasable and probably worth the punt.
As for sponsorship, it is a great idea, but unlikely to raise much.
Lets start off with a weekend in Wales in the summer - I would still
like a bit more feedback on that, and then take it from there.

jeff,
Use one with a cyclone dust pre-filter. It really works.

Jeff,
I got it thee years ago from Footloose4x4 to fit the Safari snorkel.
The fitting is a bit loose but can be corrected with some tape round
trhe snorkel tube end. Frogs Island may have it too.

Jeff - Air pre cleaners - also known as a "Donaldson" pre cleaners. The ARB / OME catalogue lists two sizes. Most tractors also utilise these type of pre cleaners.
Rgds Gareth Jones.

Gareth,
Yup, that's the one. They have now a new model available (TopSpin)
that looks more compact than the previous versions.

Julian,
Thanks. IRT the 30th, my colorado has standard all weather tyres - will these be sufficient? Also, the current insurance cover does not allow for off road use. What would be best the technical term to use when liaising with the insurance firm for them to adequately cover the car for the 30th and some more similar off road driving.
Once again, many thanks.
MK.

Technically BOATs, RUPPs and UCRs are roads.
However, most insurers when they say off-road actually mean off-tarmac.
I had this issue recently and tried to clever-talk my way out of it by
using phrases like "it will only be used on vehicular rights of way".
They didn't fall for it. Off tarmac (meaning green lanes) = off-road to
most insurers.
In the same vein the AA / RAC won't recover you from a green lane, not
for free anyway.
