OBD-II socket location

Mine (2000 model) is on the panel below the steering column. Also there is a Toyota specific one next to the engine intake manifold on the passenger side where the tubes fold over.

On my 1997 5VZ-FE there is definitely no OBD socket, just the diagnostic plug in the engine bay. Rumour has it that there is some OBD1 capability that can be accessed with Toyota Techstream software but I've never investigated it. You can access some codes by shorting out a couple of pins and counting the flashes on the check engine light but I've not done that either - touch wood I've never needed to in eight years of ownership.

Mine is a 1999 Uk-spec 1Kzte and doesn’t have OBD2. Mine has the same diagnostic connector as MODVRS described under the bonnet. I haven’t needed to read any flash codes though, so have never used it.
