Last year for the mot i fitted two new drumsticks to the steering rack,
this week it felt a bit strange dureing cornering so i jacked it up to find play in the driverside one, normaly i wouldnt complain but as the truck has only done 4k due to useing my other colly i am a bit miffed, do they normaly last for such a short time

also noticed oil dripping out of the steering rack gator, is there a seal that can be changed or is it a refurb job :?:

What new bits did you fit? Toyota trackrod ends or aftermarket?

Not sure what the proper name for them is. its the bit that screws into rack end and then the track rod end screws into the drumstick,
got them from milners.

Had exactly the same MO with Fiery about 6months ago! I thought that I had play in the screw in track rod ends the replaceable bits. Turned out on closer inspection to be in the piston that is forced out of the end of the steering rack. It had enough play in it that when full lock was reached it would kick up enough to create play and let a smidgen of PAS oil past into the gator!!! I looked into getting an exchange rack from Milners but in the end I had the original removed and refurbished by a local specialist. The steering is now so light it's laughable :D :D

NB - Aren't those drumstick track rod ends adjustable, by which I mean you can tighten the joint?

edit - Are you getting any noise or vibration up through the steering?
