So I noticed some hydraulic fluid leaking from somewhere about 18 months ago and after a brief inspection found it to be coming from the power steering pump. Its not a serious leak, and i've got by purely by monitoring the level in the reservoir and topping it up every now and again, however with a bit of time on my hands its probably time to fix it.
I know there is a really good thread by Rob on 'How to rebuild a power steering pump on 1H engines' which I assume applies to the 1HZ engine in my 105.
My question is - how difficult a job is this? does it require any special tools, and does the system need to be bleed?
My mechanical skills are limited to fairly basic stuff, radiator change, alternator change, brake pads and the like. I am keen to do some more difficult stuff but don't want to run before I can walk.
Options are to remove the PSP myself and send it off to a specialist company to rebuild, or remove it and rebuild it myself.
Any thoughts much appreciated?
Cheers
Nick
