My 05 D4D auto has a little over 100K miles on it and I have some nice Toyota coolant to replace what's in it. What are peoples' thoughts on replacing the rad? I think the theory is they crack and contaminate your AT fluid. Perhaps not this soon, but before the next coolant change. And with the cost of posh coolant is it worth doing the rad now? If so where would you get a decent replacement rad?

Different set up on the 120 series.

They separated the AT cooler from the engine rad cooler.

Why change the rad then I ask ?

Wish mine only had 100k on the clocks.

Come to think of that, wish mine only had double of what yours has on the clocks :)

Gra.

Thanks Graham. I was basing my requirement on the admitedly non-specialist Honest John report.

"Feedback welcome. See Recalls. Automatic transmission oil coolers are sited in the engine radiator and cracks can result in engine coolant entering the transmission via the oil cooler. Seems to be common in these vehicles at 7 years or more."

Is it in the same radiator unit but kept well apart from the coolant? I can see two radiators in my car, but think the front one is for my (non-working!) air con.

That might Ave been for the previous model. They do sometimes duffer from cracking.

As hire the coolant, speak to Simon (see service section for details) not much more than getting it from Halfords.
