Hi all,

The a/c system was removed from my 80 by the previous owner 'to improve the mpg'. There are some residual bits still fitted like pipework on the bulkhead butI'm not really sure what else is present or missing.

Could any specialist source the parts and fit them or would they need to be LC specialists as well?

Can anyone recommend someone in the midlands/warwickshire area?

Any rough ideas on the cost?

Thanks.

I bet he has just removed the pump. he sounds like a mong so I reckon he doesn't know where the other bits are??

you should have the pump in the engine bay, condenser, which looks like a rad and fits in front of your rad. the dryer which sits just behind the bumper on the passenger side and is a metal cylinder held in a bracket. then there is the evaporator which is behind the glove box. im in north staffs and could do the job for you depending on when you want it done. no reason why you couldn't attempt this yourself though.

oh, cant remember if the 12 valve has the dryer in the same place. someone else will confirm this.

Dryer is in front ofthe passenger battery on my 1991 80.

I think the receiver is there but the condenser and pump have been removed. There is some pipework present on the bulkhead and near side wing. Photos to follow.

The previous owner was obviously full of Brown stuff.... if that was his 'aim', all he had to do was not turn it on.

Or did he mean he removed the bits and sold them, then used to money to buy fuel :icon-biggrin:

the condenser would probable be rotten anyway, you should replace the dryer because its been open to the elements and would have absorbed too much moisture. its job is to keep moisture out of the system. dont forget the three components require about 2 oz of pag oil each. the exact measurements are in your factory manual.

Looks like most of the pipe work is still there, you need a condenser, a dryer, a compressor and mounting bracket, a tensioner pulley, a belt(!) and a vacuum out and a regas.............

Then you can check for :icon-twisted:LEAKS.

The condenser and drier aren't too bad but the compressor isn't cheap. What is the going rate on a used one?

You may find you get the odd leak here and there? The 'O' rings dry up and shrink, only comes to light when the system is pressured up. Most good AC people will 'vac' or purge the system of moisture before refilling. When they fill it ask them to put in some dye. Any leaks will show up easily with the special glasses that can be worn, saves a lot of time and aggravation first time around.

I have looked at eurocarparts but they are permanently out of stock and still £500
