Sky question.

We have just the basic sky box installation, can i buy a sky plus HD box off the bay & simply swap it for my current one & put my card in & away we go or can i not do that ?

I asked a satellite installer this question last year and was told that Sky have to 'switch on' the HD to your STB/card combination. Looks like you may need a new card for £25. http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/

I believe so but you will probably have to upgrade your sky subscription to use all the HD channels.

You will have to contact sky and get your card paired with the new box but won't receive hd channels unless you subscribe to hd.

According to the info in the link you don't have to subscribe if you just want the free to air HD channels. It's just a one off payment of £25.

I use free to air and just changed my card over from the old grey box to the new fleabay HD one, works ok not sure if the HD does though...

we get more on the HDfreesat box than the sky box (not subscribers)
