Spots/Chas's new buy

Just wondered about your new spots. Looks like they will only fit onto a
certain diameter tube, ie roll cage.
I have no such thing on the top of my car - I have a Patriot roof rack which
is all flat ali surfaces. I suppose I could always bolt on a piece of tubing
- but are the lamps bright enough to go on the roof? Will the really
illuminate the road ahead? Are they just work lights?

Hi Jeremy,
I haven't fitted them yet, but I popped out to the garage just for you and
stuck one across the battery and they do seem quite bright they certainly
would be as a pair, each one is 50w and from their site it says
"X-Lites are only 60mm diameter and yet deliver more intense light in the
visual spectrum than the majority of commercial driving lights. The bulbs
are only 50w and yet will outshine most 100w and even 150w halogen
lights. How is this possible? The light is high temperature with most of it's
energy in the middle to top of your visual range where your eyes are most
sensitive. Most lights are biased toward the red end of the spectrum and
waste a lot of the light energy as heat and infrared"
I'm not sure whether I believe all that, but when I have them up and shining
I'll let you know, there are two sizes for different tubes 46mm and 51mm

Thanks for that. Didn't mean for you to go out and rummage. I'll be
interested to see how they look/work. If I go for them, I just need to think
about mounting.
Have a good weekend

I'm not sure what they mean by "top end": the eye is most sensitive to
light in the red/green end of the colour spectrum, ie yellow! It makes
me laugh when I see adverts for blue bulbs as being supposedly "better".
But I'd be interested to see what you make of them.
I - briefly - fitted some PIAA "Super white" bulbs in my quest for
brighter headlights and, yes, they were whiter (bluer) but I definitely
could not see as much. I've gone back to an upgraded wiring harness +
130/100watt Narva bulbs. Dipped beam is "adequate", but main beam (130w
outer + 100w inner) is awesome, and I couldn't imagine needing more main
beam light for ordinary driving.

If your looking for new spots - check out the Hella Rally 3000, they
come with either wide angle or high density spot.
They're big & blue but good. a lot of trucks seem to have them.
