Steering gone heavy

Hi all.

If noticed that my steering has gone a little heavy. Also the wheels do not centre after turning.

Anyone with a solution to this?

First thing, check power steering fluid level and tyre pressures. Then get the front in the air and take a look at the steering rack bushes - 3 of them. And if everything looks OK get someone to turn the steering back and forth and feel if there is any movement in the steering rack or steering rack ends (inner and outers) - you can also move the wheel back and forth by yourself if nobody is around to help you.

Then when everything is good as new, get your wheel alignment done again.

Thanks.

Replaced the bushes not long ago. Tyres all good as I check it every week.

Will get the car jacked up to do as you say.

What is the best way to replace the steering fluid.

Regards

I haven't changed my fluid yet, so can't speak from experience. Topping up and turning the steering back and forth a few times (with the wheels off the ground) should be ok though - enough to know if the fluid level was the problem.

Does it get lighter if u are revving up the engine a bit ?
Could be the pump then.

Check rack seals as you are underneath.
I replaced pump and rack last year for refurb units.

Noticed the steering was heavy and when revving, it got lighter, sonpump needed to be done.

Checked the rack as we were underneath and noticed passing outer seal on rack so did that too.

Good luck!!
