According to Sureterm Direct my 100 is too modified for them to insure  They only do up to 3" lift (suspension and body lift combined).

My existing policy when I phone up to check a mod before I do it they just go ok we've made a note of that. BUT I can't get them to add Ray to the policy as a named driver for a month (to go to France) because of a little incident with some fireworks in the boot of his wife's D3 a few years ago

Any suggestions for insurers that do extreme modified vehicles (that's Sureterm Direct's opinion of my lift :? ).

Well I had no problems at all with old Fluxy. There weren't any mods that they went 'Ohh dunno about that'. I didn't have to declare how high I had gone.

Chris

I'll try old Fluxy in the am then, ta. Any more anyone?

IIRC the Farmers Union (???) were OK. I have no issue with 2gether - they've been OK with everything so far - I ended up with 'specialist vehicle' insurance from Lloyds ....

Adrain Flux every time. I called them and said i have done a few things to my truck and they said "Oh yes? Winch bumper? Winch? Suspension lift?" No problem just send a list of whats done."
When i renew i will be doing an "agreed value" policy as i had a hard time when my modded defender was stolen as there was a falling out over the cost of replacement extras with the claims handler.

2Gether seem happy with most mods but I believe they start upping the premium when they hear about power increase mods. Dunno how your exhuast & headers will grab them.
As far as standard "body" mods go, they indicated that pretty much anything that didn't cause an MOT fail was ok by them at no extra charge under the policy.

Cheers,

Chriss Knott have a special 4x4 policy that should cover you.

Not if you were the insurer paying out the £30k to replace it ! There were some left over fireworks in the back of Emma's D3 that somehow caught fire and burnt it out. I wasn't there at the time but it sounded quite 'exciting' That was in 2006 and so still relevent when they ask for 5 year history. My policy is IMO very cheap for what they're insuring (I say body lift, they say ok, not how high etc) but the underwriters are being fussy about who they'll allow on the policy  hence this thread.

NFU mutual..

They don't seem to be to fussed and do a good price too..
So far I have only had 1st class service of them...

i managed to get black listed on NFU for saying that i am going to Mongolia... yes not a smart thing to do  and its still there a year later

Well I went with Adrian Flux to insure Lil blue, and had no issues with any of the mods. For some reason they initailly thought I said there was a intercooler fitted and they started to um and ah, so clearly concerned about any power increases, but once that was clarified, had no issues.

Oh, and I had to start a new policy with zero NCB, with 3 points for speeding and a at fault claim... Mind you not cheap for TPFT....

Isn't sounding promising for Flux with my plans for a Dastek Unichip in the very near future on top of the headers and exhaust then but I can ask.

The underwriters for Fluxy are NIG. Adrian Flux were the only ones that would insure mine and it took one phone call and they covered Kevin (my navigator for the French trip) fully comp for £21. Also they don't mind you doing the modification work yourself unlike unlike other insurers.

black listed?

mmmm I have unlimited European cover that covers me Fully comp all over Europe and I also have Thirt party only for contry's like:

Albania, Belarus, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Israel, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Serbia, Montenegro, Tunisia, Ukraine etc...

But not sure Mongolia is in it whahaha

they would not give me a quote last year due to the fact that there is a possibility that i will go to Mongolia and tried again this year it is exactly the same. Apparently that's too high risk for them, but it doesn't even make any sense as none of their policies will not cover me out there... i do wonder how long i will be on their WARNING DO NOT INSURE! list

Adrian Flux had no issues with travel outside Europe, they said i will need to get a separate policy with someone else when using the vehicle outside Europe

Looks like Adrian Flux are the answer, only caveat as far as I can see is they were given a verbal list of mods without details i.e. size of lift and having issued a certificate now want a detailed list with size of lifts, what make, who fitted etc, which strikes me as poor practice - they should ask for the details up front to be sure they can handle them and I'm a bit annoyed about having been given the impression it was all sorted.

Here's the story and you'll perhaps see why I'm unhappy with this bit of practice from Flux:

I had a modified vehicle policy through Accademy Insurance with NIG. I filled in the proposal form with a hand written list of mods and kept a copy just to be safe. Roll forwards 10 months and I wanted to add Ray as a named driver so he can have a go in France. Accademy tell me no go with NIG, they won't touch him with his claims history but they could arrange a new policy for lots more money. Ofter we got over the shock of how much extra it would cost we decided to go ahead. This moring I get the policy documentation - for a TD and with no mods! Phone them up, point out my big long list of mods, oh, they forgot about those, no way Fortis (new insurers) will go for that so that policy is invalid and we canceled your old policy yesterday so you're not insured, we can start a new 12 month policy for you from today without Ray if you like!

So I left them to come up with a more sensible suggestion and called Flux, who quoted a similar price, definately including all the modifications and Ray as a named driver. Lovely thinks I, sorted, until the docs come through and I see there's a lot of ways they could still decide my 100 is too extremely modified for them

Couldn't happen? The policy is with NIG, go figure.

To be continued no doubt ...

Similar process.with Lil blue when I took out insurance with flux. Lucky I had a full detailed list in Excel which I printed out and attached to their form.
Sent it off and got a email confirming all ok within 2 - 3 days.
One thing that did bug me was that on the form they stated that a engineer report may be requested by them at my expense, over which I had no control or say. Fortunately it was not required

I am sure there was a thread somewhere where this was discussed. Paul IIRC, is an engineer (as are many folk here) and wrote a report himself. ;)

I wrote one myself as well because when premium choice asked for and engineers report they actually meant get a garage to look it over so not really a professional engineers opinion. I then said i am studying mechanical engineering at uni and asked would i be qualified? not a problem apparently

Wrote my own, they did bring up the subject about who fitted the mods and i said i did and i was an engineer and there was no problems. The only subject that seems to throw old fluxy is power increases, and be aware that things like bash plates can be considered wearing items, suppose thats the flip side of having a specialist 4x4 insurer is that they can know what they are talking about. The plates on my defender were not paid for when it was stolen even on an agreed value policy.
