Who is doing what maintenance today?

ooh, like the idea of wrapping them Chas. That IS a development. Nice one. I did this mod on the original white 80 a long time ago and on the off road silver one. I'll probably do it on the grey one as well. It's not just about freezing weather, hot water does clean your screen much better.

If I do wrap it I'll hold the foil in place with some gaffer tape to protect the foil.

8mm copper pipe is very flexible and conducts heat better .

Plastic tube is easier to install and probably cheaper than copper pipe, the tube, 3mts and 1mtr didn't get used, and connectors I bought was only £3. I did think at first to make up a 15mm pipe inside a 25mm pipe to make a water jacket with inlet/outlet tubes soldered in but that would have been more labour intensive.

I was just thinking a short coil wrapped around any pipe close to the engine would act like a kettle element and a rubber hose either end to connect things back up .

Shayne no need to over think something that already works and is simple and incredibly cheap.

True Chas and maybe overkill, but the ones I made like that were fantastic. Continuous hot water, never ran cold. You could use it to defrost the screen in the worst overnight freeze-up circumstances!

Tested the washers today and while the water is warm I think an increase in temperature would be an improvement so I've wrapped the plastic pipe in kitchen foil and secured with Gaffa tape. For some reason I'm not able to upload pictures today , so imagine the previous pic with tape round it. :icon-rolleyes:

Replaced fire extinguishers, the old ones had expired, is it a legal requirement to carry a fire extinguisher in the UK now?

We have to carry a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, a warning triangle and spare light bulbs. The police are very busy at the moment stoking up their Christmas funds, so it's good to keep them all up to date.

Slipped in some new window rubbers this lunchtime. Now, not only do the windows go up and down nicely, that actually GO up and down. 18 year year old rubber had turned into something like a plastic extrusion; like cable conduit. I could barely bend them to get them into the bin. Next week, tinting. Going to be reet posh so it is.

Funny really, I put new rubbers and new motors in the other truck and they're still rubbish. Never worked out why. Rear passenger side is the only one that's any good.
Chris, how much did you pay for the rubbers if you don't mind me asking please?

I'm not at my best when under the bonnet of a vehicle so tend to send it to Mr T for all work. After just purchasing the 100 and its nearly 6 x months since the last service I phoned my local dealer and asked them for a price on on an oil and filter change, £245.00........

Here the oil would cost me about £80, the filter about £8 and the labour would be about £20.

What's that, change from £120 even if I've under-estimated!

Certainly cheaper than that here Clive. I buy oil in 20L drums and I get that for £50. Milner do an oil and filter kit with Fuchs oil which I have used many times. Take a run out Johnny and I'll do it for you for less. I once did a full oil and filter change in 17 mins. Air, fuel and oil

No not a legal requirement to carry an extinguisher. We don't really seem to get many car fires.

It's a European thing Chris, based on perceptions of safety, not reality. I was wondering if it had spread to the UK or not (yet). I have to admit, the extinguisher came in handy when the electrics at the back of the 80 caught fire a couple of years ago.

The reason the oil is expensive is because most brands here are packaged on a ship somewhere, you can't trust that its genuine.

I've had 2 inverters burst into flames on my boat and both were professionally selected and fitted so maybe those who have added an inverter should get themselves an extinguisher .

I carry 2 because they're cheap and crap. 15 seconds of intense powder, but if that hasn't worked you're a but fcuked, so I have another 15 seconds to hand!

I'm staggered that they haven't made it mandatory Clive. Given our head long dash to have anything in the name of safety. Even warning triangles aren't a requirement. Or spare tyres, or hi viz jackets. Nor being very good at driving, even.

I forgot the hi vis waistcoat... have one of them too .... legal requirement.

It's comical though, you see a car broken down and the triangle is about 2 meters away from it! Why they don't have any common sense to position it a good 100 m away I don't know! Probably afraid of someone stealing it!

Maybe Landrover owners should be made to carry 2.............just in case the first one breaks down. Lol

I was glad I had an extinguisher when a cable running to a 12v socket in the back shorted out, luckily I knew which fuse to pull quickly. I now have two powder ones and one of those that Daniel was selling a while back.
