Who is doing what maintenance today?

probably not strong enough, I wouldn't do it, but someone will now say they went the length of Africa and back on rivnuts no problem

Haha there is always one!

I'm just getting all my other jobs out of the way before I get back to this one.

Thanks again :)

Pulled the 80 out of the workshop and drove it for first time in nearly a month, gave it a good wash and filled the tank.

Not maintenance but went to burn some of that unleaded today.
We had a run out across the north yorks moors and to the coast. Oddly the 255/85's are noiser on the road then the 35x12.50's but it doesn't track off on bumpy roads as much.
Stuffed the new shelf with jackets etc etc and does the job nicely.

Ignition timing

Checked the timing on the cruiser before carrying out ignition timing mod. Found the timing to be set at TDC, so 3º retarded from FSM standard.

Adjusted to 6º BTDC and seems to be a little smoother, although I must say I didn't notice any SOTP performance gain.

Will see if its of any real benefit or not.

New pads all round on Monday.

Today was the mother of all jobs so far - replacing the fuel pump. 8.5 hours of hard work, no doubt it can be done quicker. that sucker was stuck on pretty tight.

Karl to the rescue again, so thats twice in a month. Mate, you are a rare man, good for your word, helpful, and you do what you say. Good to have you at the end of the phone with suggestions when I was stuck.

Need to strip the rear locker soon - reckon the magnets have come unstuck.

Polybushed my steering rack today,do the panhard rod tomorrow and get it tracked and should be nice and straight then.

Had the paintwork on the 120 detailed with a light cut and polish, got rid of all but 3 Laning pinstripes. Very pleased with the outcome, detailer said that the thickness of paint on a lot of Japanese vehicles are notoriously thin which makes this type of work more difficult.

Put some refurbed & strengthened rear axle lower control arms on the 80. Washed the 100 :icon-rolleyes:

Strengthened Jon? That's one big lump of metal that I thought would never need reinforcement.

They're pretty bendy if you catch them on something e.g. going up a step. You can flip them and bend them back but better if they don't bend in the first place. As it involves welding the best time to reinforce is when changing the bushes anyway. I just sleeved them with some 5mm wall tube I had handy that I know isn't very bendy :icon-cool:

is this becoming a laning beast then? :icon-biggrin:

No, not yet anyway, having small tyres makes it more vulnerable to catching things underneath and while I was rebushing etc makes sense to strengthen a known 'weakness' so if I do go playing it's one more thing already sorted :icon-biggrin:

My OEM-type switch arrived from Oz all wired up to control the spots independently of the 'bright' switch. Very neat - now to plumb it in...

Installed CDL switch I received from Chas. Found the wiring plugged into a blank just where it should be. Took me 10 min tops and all now working 100%!

Painted the roof rack this eve, will leave for a couple of days and bolt it up.

This sounds interesting Jon, do you have any photos of the "Strengthening" perchance?
I'm trying to imagine how you sleeved them...

Cheers! :icon-biggrin:
