Is there a preferred one to connect to, for some reason?

It's a UK-spec Colorado diesel, so has the twin batteries linked in parallel. The offside battery is closer to the terminals on the winch, but it strikes me as being the weaker of the two due to the way it's wired in.

Judging by the tumbleweeds rolling past, one can surmise it doesn't matter at all then. Easiest wiring path it is then

Providing the cable linking the batteries is man enough for the current the winch draws it makes no odds.

As OG says, provided the interconnecting cablesa re large enough, won't make any difference.
Just run BOTH cables for the winch, diectly from the battery, dn't be tempted to earth out on chassis.....it will probaly fail, sooner rather than later.

Definitely not...anything with 3 figure current load requires careful handling.

Now I just have to work out whereabouts in the engine bay there's sufficient space for the solenoid.
