Thanks Dave I heard that the shim is supplied for that specific reason ie that it can be removed to remove some of the space. Probably not a factory setting but hey yours is working! :)

I fitted one as I also had more oil in my air filter pipes than I wanted Can't say it made much difference though. It did catch some oil but I don't have one on my other 80 and it has less oil in the pipes without having a catch can I'm no expert but maybe try find out if yours has more of less...
