1hd-ft engine rebuild

Thanks for the vid mine does sound the same when cold the more I drive it at the minute the better it seems to get I didn't have time to do the tappets at the weekend but I'm going to have to get it done pretty sharpish just so everything is right

Vid worked perfectly first time for me but i think there were 3 different threads yesterday on which i could not see pics . Crispin did mention not long ago that changes might result in some erratic now you see it now you don't behaviour until his work is complete .

Took the car up the Yorkshire dales over the weekend the engine is performing a treat and I have some great news wynns had decided as a goodwill gesture to pay for the parts of the rebuild  image.jpg

Fantastic that Wynss are paying. I bet you would not have wanted 60 years worth of free EGR cleaner. :icon-biggrin:.

Well done Wynns. That is good news. [emoji4]

And hats off to Kev. I don't think I've ever seen someone with an engine failure here fixing it.

It is good of them and way more than I expected I was just hoping for some free stuff really even the egr cleaner is really good at getting crusted on carbon off parts I used a spare can I had to clean the head when I had it off. There isn't much to these engines really it's just all measuring to make sure everything is in spec

They are very heavy compared with what I've been used to. Also taking the crank out would be a bit of a job as there is that reinforcing block underneath the main block which most car engines don't have.

You have amazed me Delboy, I can't believe that Wynnes have paid you compensation, and it's more than just a few bob as well, fantastic!!

I think they deserve a place of honour on the forum for doing that, the odds were so much stacked against you in a court case

Brilliant result and the way it's performing is testimony to all your hard work and stamina rebuilding it.

The truck looks great BTW, and ready for another 1,000,000 km.

I would be interested to know how you approached Wynn's i can't imagine it was with threats of fire and brimstone ?

No no threats I was just honest with them really. They said the product shouldn't do that I told them I think it could so did an engine specialist they still wouldn't accept responsibility so I just asked for a goodwill gesture so I could tell you lot it was a happy ending. I was only hoping for some free stuff but they offered to pay for the parts so I sent my details and a copy of the receipts

I have just checked my fluids and there is diesel in the cooling system does anyone have any idea where this could be coming from the only place I can think of is the acsd I'm a little worried as the pipe In the header tank has expanded and fell off the cap and the cap seal has expanded due to fuel in the system, god knows what else the fuel is damaging so I will need to find what is is and sort it asap

Having just removed and stripped/rebuilt the ACSD I can't see it being that. The coolant operated thermo wax plunger and the mechanical part of the linkage exposed to diesel fuel are completely separate. Daft question but are you 100% certain it's diesel and not engine oil? Engine oil could be a head gasket but I can't think of anywhere in the engine where coolant and fuel could mix. JMO

It's not engine oil it has a strong smell of diesel having looked at the acsd you are right it's not that the only other thing i can think of is injector o rings I have had to change injector cups on a Volvo truck before due to fuel in the cooling system but I'm not sure if the Landcruiser has a similar kind of thing

Kev. It's not something as simple as you have filled the cooling system up with a contaminated jug have you?

No I wish, it's was a new bottle of coolant after the rebuild and water from the kettle I have emptied the header tank and filled it with just water I'm going to check it in the light tomorrow after I drive to work
