Am I allowed in here?

As a semi temp measure I have a single tyre (235/85/16) coming to make up the set to 4 and I guess we'll see whether that solves the vibration.
Likely to go back to OEM 275/70/16 or possibly 265's if need be, want to keep as stock as possible

When you go to a reputable wheel balancer they don't have a tolerance do they? It's either balanced or not. I imagine the machine to have a tolerance but the weights are standard "units" used in combination.

I had one guy loading my rim with 130+ grams once. I suggested rotating the tyre on the rim by 180 degrees. He looked at me strange as if to say what difference will that make, and lo and behold he balanced the wheel with 40 grams afterwards.

If your wanting to go 265.75.16 Bfg all terrain John I have a set at £160 (Four)

Okay - this changes everything - to go back to your original question the answer is "NO" - not if you're wanting to keep stock :eusa-naughty:

Initial reports from a quick scooch around are that the vibration may be sorted - have stuck a tyre on, will know more tomorrow when she goes on the motorway.

Now......heres the start of some questions: -
1) the electric aerial has no mast - in fact it seems to have some sort of gunk in the hole. Can a replacement mast be purchased? Or just better to get a new aerial altogether?
2) the radio works, CD player in boot doesn't, no power to cd control unit under radio, have a parrot hands free fitted - just wondering what anyone has done as an ICE upgrade?
3) heated rear screen seems to work but not well at all - kind of like as if not full output? Switch lights up, can hear relay click, but little warming/clearing effect. How can I do some testing?
4) Centre console has heated seat switches and some weird large other switches marked siren and horn. There is some 3 core domestic flex running from them away under the transmission shifter panel, needs investigation. Wondering if it may be some sort of control system for winching or whatever as car has a winch bumper. The heated seat switches are NOT connected to any loom, gutted here as I like a warm ass on leather. Am actually thinking it may have had a replacement centre console which had too many switches so to speak, thinking back to my 95 saga thread about retro fitting heated leather into my Colorado, there was some discussion about whether looms were present in all LC's. So my question is, this is a P plate 4.5 80 VX - is the all the gear for heated seats likely to be there?
5) She feels quite soft ie worn suspension. Chas did mention it - saying that his diesel 80 felt taughter so to speak. That's had a lift so naturally had newer dampers etc. Am thinking that the chances are my 80 may still be on original suspension. I won't be lifting it as an on-roader. Has anyone done a suspension refresh to standard spec, and if so which aftermarket dampers did they fit? I don't want to go mad with spend on this one but a comfier controlled ride would really benefit the car I think. Not sure if I should bother doing the springs while I am on? It will be used for towing a trailer a bit. Goes without saying that if any of you have lifted a car which had recently had standard suspension refreshed and you have the bits in the garage please do shout up !!!

That's all for now till I really get into it.

If you want factory ride without too much expense, buy some good condition OEM springs from a breaker and some brand new Toyota dampers (about £45 each), that will give the best ride for not too much cost. New Mr T springs are the best but the last set I bought were £660 + vat I think. That said it rode like a brand new truck.

I'm going to chip in here in respect of your list. Yes replacement masts are available from Toyota or after market replacements, priced accordingly.

Springs. In terms of ride height and softness, this depends on the springs only and is unaffected by the dampers/shock absorbers fitted/condition. Yes, a bouncy truck with ineffective shock aborbers can be fixed with replacement units, but the ride height and softness of the suspension will not be affected, only by replacing the springs.

Reiterate this is my opinion and experience, others may disagree and correct me.

Done about 260 miles all in so far, she worked for her keep today - drove up to Bishop Stortford and trailered an MX5 back.
She did ok, I have a weird flashing red LED next to drivers knee which seems to have a mind of its own - flashing at one speed, then double speed, then not......no idea what the hell it is, looks aftermarket.

That might be the LPG indicator - Chas will be able to confirm.

Usually, when you're running out of LPG is when it starts flashing and when it goes out, you're switched over to Petrol. There is a buzzer on mine also just to warn you too.

I spoke with Chas but he was unsure - the car has an LPG gauge/button on centre console although we do know the gauge is faulty as it reads very low. I will see if it goes out when I manually switch it to petrol. Maybe when it double-time flashes its thinking lpg fuel level is low perhaps. Would be nice to know lol.

Car noted as leaking oil on MOT - checked level and it is down a touch. What oil do we collectively reckon is correct? 4.5 on LPG, done 170k miles. Won't be servicing it just yet but need to top off in meantime - my factor said 5w40 full synthetic. Contradicted by my other factor who said 5w30 full synth....:(

On mine, there are 4 green LEDs which act as the LPG tank gauge. When all 4 are lit, then the LPG tank is full. They go out one by one as the tank empties. When it gets to the last LED, it doesn't go out like the others but flashes for a while. Then when the LPG tank is empty, this light stops flashing and goes out, a buzzer also sounds. The system then switches over to petrol. The tank indicator/gauge lights and the LPG on/off indicator are all in one small button/unit. I'll pop a pic of it up in a mo.....

as promised (though probably redundant now).

That's the same as mine Chad - this is a stand-alone red led just above the internal fusebox cover etc, which may, or may not, be related to LPG !!

There is a standalone red LED for the immobilisor/alarm on the 90s, there might be a similar thing on the 80s?

I don't think the gauge is 'faulty' because it reads full when it is full but tends to read low as gas is used even though there is plenty of gas left, I had this checked by an LPG specialist at Capital Autogas New Malden, Surrey KT3 3NE and he tried re-setting it via his laptop with some success, but while watching him it did seem to be a fiddly job. He also fitted a new sender in the LPG tank. Strangely I had exactly the same problem with my Lexus.
