Auto or Manual diff??

A friend has a rear diff for sale on ebay. But he does not know if its from a manual or auto. So how does he tell?

Ratio. Manual and auto are different

Errm 4.1 and 4.3 aren't they?

I knew that they not the same, but how would he tell? Would he need to count the teeth and work it out?

Manual 3.7:1 Auto 4.1:1 A manual diff has 11 teeth on the pinion and 41 on the crownwheel and I'm guessing that there are 10 teeth on an auto pinion and 41 on the crownwheel.
41/11=3.72 41/10=4.1

Exactly what I shall be doing Stephen. I have two sets of auto diffs and plan to stick one of them into the manual when I find one and then whack the 35" BFG ATs on there.
