Well after my last thread asking what to look for when buying a 80 Series, I went to look at a few ropey diesels before travelling down to Norfolk to look at a Petrol with Lpg converison and ended up buying it. Its has been well looked after with a good service history and was in far better condition that the 3 I had been to see last month with only 124k miles and handful of owners. It took me 5 hours to drive back to Holmfirth but was well worth the trip.

Its got a Zavoli multi point LPG system with Valve saver and a 100litre tank underneath so will do roughly 200 miles to a tank. Really happy with it but it does need a few little niggles sorting out. Its booked in for a little bit of paint but I also need the rear brakes looking at and a small oil leak checking.
Is there any garages or specialists in the Yorkshire area that anyone can recommend?

I know Overland Cruisers come highly recommended on here but its miles away from me.

Well done on the purchase of your 80 mathaus, I'm sure you will have a lot of pleasure in improving it and most of all driving it...

Cheers Clive, the kids love it, the wife not so much :icon-biggrin:.

Im also trying to find a rebuild kit for the power steering pump but no luck so far. Anyone know where I can get one? Do Toyota sell the kits?

Amayama do one. Have a look on their website. Useful parts catalogues too. I think the pumps are common to the 80 and 81 series so if you have any trouble, look at an 81. Mine is HDJ81-RNPEX if that helps. Alternatively I could dig out the part number. You could try a search on here as unthinking here is a thread covering this with part numbers.

Thanks StarCruiser ive manged to finr the part number for the kit which is 04446-60070 so ill get one ordered.

Can anyone recommend a garage in the yorkshire area to work on my landcruiser?

Pics needed :icon-biggrin:
How you liking the petrol?
Same as me when bought mine, got fed up looking at 'perfect example' diesels so went for a petrol but without lpg, haven't looked back since and wished I had a diesel

The power steering pump is leaking so Ill get the rebuild kit and today ive found this. Both sides at the rear are leaking. The handbrake is none existent so not sure if its related to that. Anyone have any idea what the issue could be?

Looks like the axle seals have gone, easy enough to sort, most likely got oil on the handbrake shoes and the wheel bearing grease gets washed out by the oil too.

Ill have to take a proper look at it in the week when I get chance. Its parked up at the moment not being used so no massive rush.
If it is the seals it it an expensive job if I do it myself? and is there a guide for it anywhere? I can find a guide for the front axle but not the rear

Could just be blocked breather. I went to all the trouble to change rear shaft seals only to find out it was the breather. Do that first. It's free. Handbrake? Could be all sorts including it just needing setting up correctly or the linings having dropped off.

Very tidy bodywork indeed.

Now that looks "awl white" to me, there'll always be some niggly jobs on a 20 year old, but it looks fine bodywise.

Yes, I thought that. Even has all its lacquer by the look of it…unlike mine[emoji22]

That does look good, I do like a white Cruiser.

Cheers Chris Ill take a look at the breather first and take it from there.

To be honest I didnt think it was lacquered as its worn through to the undecoat in a couple of areas and ive had a search on the internet and the white ones in the US are all single stage paint so presumed this would be also. It needs a bit of body work and paint on the upper boot lid and the bonnet but apart for that it seems very clean.

Ah yes the breather!

Is a nice looking 80

Cheers guys. im off work for a few days now so ill take a look at the breather first and take it from there.

Massive thanks to Chris for changing the rear axle seals, hand brake shoes, setting up the handbrake, cleaning, checking, regreasing and refitting the bearings.... The list goes on and on. Top man, thanks
