i KNOW NOTHING about CB radio so

Yep Shayne,

I'm starting to loose the plot on what's likely to work or not.

Let's go for Chas' set-up, then if it doesn't work, we can all blame him
Mine works fine, if you have a problem I deny all responsibility. :icon-twisted:

Too late Chas, you're implicated, you forgot the disclaimer in your posts[emoji50]
I'm hoping we don't stray too far from each other when we're out and about so it's more for emergencies when you as sweeper in the line get bogged and nobody notices [emoji3]

Oh Chas you better not be leading us up a blind alley

I'll pay a visit to Specsavers before we go, anyway it'll be Clive leading so you can blame him if we get lost.

If, IF, I get bogged you will all notice, I'll be the one screaming. :angry-screaming:

I don't see how Chas could lead you up any blind alleys as the sweeper…unless you have to retreat in reverse that is…[emoji6]

Star, these trucks are Japanese, not Italian.

These aerials have a different bit at the bottom, the first round shaped bit just below the fat part of the aerial is the swivel below that the dome shaped bit is what you need to mount the aerial.
This one isn't dome shaped but it's the same thing.

Wasted a whole day fitting it and the antenna cable turns out to be 3ft too short :icon-rolleyes: no idea what to do about it because its to late to order anything so unless they sell it in tesco :confusion-shrug:

Wasn't a complete waste of time though because now i know what i'm doing we should have yours installed in about 15 minutes Clive .

Have you got a Maplins anywhere near Shayne they probably will have an extension co-ax cable.

I was in there a month ago and asked if they sold CB's , nothing there . I guess i can order an extension and spend some time tuning it when we arrive at the first nights camp .

Shayne - go into the Maplins at Cribbs causeway, bristol, its only just off your route - they sell a 10m extension kit. It needs to be PL259 to PL259.

Or, I have one you can have, but I live near junction 23 of M5........

Pete

And this is important......dont press the transmit button on your rig until you, or someone, has checked it with a swr meter......

Cheers Pete i should be ok that Jim fella at 4x4cb has been good so far with next day delivery so i will give him a call in the morning . I am aware these things break quite easily so i have no intention of even switching it on until everything is tidy , i bought an swr meter and was promised it would include instructions but i haven't opened the box yet .

Shayne, you'll either need a lead that has two PL259 plugs, one each end and use a SO239 to SO239 adapter. Or better still a lead with a PL259 one end and an SO239 the other. Try for one close to the length you need as one that is unnecessarily long will reduce your signal. Jim will know all this I'm sure.

I ordered off him yesterday, bits arriving today :)

And he is closed today - sods law . I have taken the plug to radio off to save drilling a massive hole in bodywork its only a bit of solder and the cable seems not much from a normal tv , any coupling will do it guess  i wonder if the landrover shop can help .
