KZJ90 first used May 12th 1998

Wow that’s surprising after such a short time. I’m on standard well abused toyota shocks and they are hanging in there

London, and the UK for that matter really do take there toll on shocks with all those humps!

I've had those same monroe shocks before, I got about 60k miles before one side was completely shot. At the price they're at I couldn't complain.

My OME shocks have survived 200k kms and are still going strong...

A coat of paint might pretty them up, but they work ok

Looking good. I need to finish mine underneath, the rear arches, boot floor and floorpan (outside of chassis) are raptor'd but I want to pain the rear axle and front inner arches, I have the same springs and dampers that you just fitted, they work real well.

I lied turns out it was Case red tractor paint i ordered :confusion-shrug:

Having long known about the axle turret drain problem with 90 series i have always paid particular attention to them while jet washing , so i was unhappy to find a handful of Lincomb mud which has taken the consistency of sand probably due to the amount of times its been "washed" in one of the turrets , and I reckon its been 3 years since i buried the truck deep enough in Lincomb red to fill the turrets !

So i got the drill out and sorted it while wondering why the hell i didn't do it years ago :icon-neutral:

can you please explain this in private message or in here or by email [email protected]

thanks!!!!!!!

I think i read the Chemiphase Cemex hydrocloric acid i used is supposed to cancel itself at some point but rather than take a chance on it i stuck a bag of soda crystals (alkali) in 5 litres of hot water , coated everything and let it sit for two days .

And this afternoon i made the fatal mistake of thinking "i will just paint that bit"

View attachment 127419

So much for the original plan of taking everything off and putting it back bit by bit :icon-rolleyes: but hey i reckon the only way to do this wrong is to put it off until next year ...... again :icon-smile:

looks amazing. i will make a note of this acid asap

Axle turrets are known to rot because the drain holes get blocked allowing muck to gather inside creating the perfect conditions for rust to take hold . Just make the holes bigger so the muck gets washed out when it rains and the turrets can actually dry .

I'd have used Dychem super limate which is amazing stuff we use on boats designed to be environmentally friendly but makes light work of rust , i just couldn't get any at the time .

Just make the holes bigger

axle turrers are known to rot because the drain holes get blocked allowing muck to gather inside creating the perfect conditions for rust to take hold . EGR delete then strip and clean the throttle body .

An EGR delete kit can increase your exhaust gas temperature. Diesel engines typically cool the exhaust gases generated, then recirculate them back into the system. When you bypass this feature with an EGR delete kit, then the exhaust remains hot.

https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/egr-removal-delete/

(Only benefits looking at your throttle body when you get it open will show you why, and its a fiddly job but not a big one just stick a blocking plate in.)

(got a transmission shop to do it but it's an easy job, you probably need longer hoses or to lengthen the existing ones but mounting the cooler is fairly simple, it just attached to the AC evaporator. No modifications to the radiator needed, aside from blocking off the unused transmission connections.)

Whoever designed the 1kz exhaust downpipe should be shot

I had a 3" exhaust custom made but even if you had a better downpipe made to work with the existing exhaust it has to be better than what Toyota gave us .

prado roof lights are wired, 2nd time with waterproof switches. unfortunately the first electrician drilled through the roof of the car. i was shocked because he didn't tell me that is his plan. after all not bothering anymore.

new break pads, shocks for the back were installed. nothing else needed. the rust was treated by me, i have spent 5 days on it.

we took the car up on the Alps, 3x over 2500 meter. slep in snowy peak in July
than drove Prado all the way to Hungary, that off road paradise!! we entered Somogybabod off road festival's field, right after the festival. Crazy mudd baths, heals, long muddy roads. I had to learn to use 4 wheel drive, to use it before entering a mudd bath
Around my mother's village off road every single direction, amazing opportunity for a car like this Prado.
Car was a monster, never failed. Steady power all the way..took on any challenge.

On the way back to UK we took Rhone Alps. Found super spots and we will return. Amazing trip we took, Alps is amazing with cheap diesel on the Austrian side under €1/L

Dychem super limate would be my first choice its expensive but amazing stuff washes rust right off i just couldn't get any at the time .

And essentially its bleach supplied by boat chandlers because its environmentally safe , we get fined if we spill something that isn't into the harbour .
