LJ70 Build Thread!

Got a bloody speeding fine through the post yesterday! :icon-evil:

Need my LandCruiser back! Then I can just pootle along (as Chris would say). :icon-biggrin:

when I'm welding the rings to the wheels maybe I could weld some thing on to protect the valves. Some tube maybe, sliced in half.
That should make balancing them interesting!

Hi Ben I got a speeding fine wen I was in AuStralia not happy good look tonytoyota:violin:

Ben, sad to hear you learnt the hard way - but you really really can't get away with speeding on a regular (or almost ever) basis as you will be caught on a regular basis. When i'm back in oz I never speed ... as the chance of getting caught is just so damn high. Between hiding in the bushes and the private firms with hidden cars parked on the side of the road you have no chance. Also all of this with a 3km/h speeding tolerance .. which is bollocks. Especially when cars ship an acceptable tolerance for the speedo is 10%! </end rant>

Out of interest, do they use a points based system similar to the UK, or is it just a hefty fine?

Points based very similar to here. They also have double point weekends (easter etc) where it can be possible to lose almost half of your points for not wearing a seat belt. Snippet below from victorian government. More than 25km/h over or greater than 130 and it's instant loss of license for at least 3 months. Very draconian.

Excessive speed is defined as driving 25 kilometres an hour or more above the speed limit, or at 130 kilometres an hour or more (if the speed limit is 110 kilometres per hour).

After conviction, which occurs 28 days from the notice issue date unless you object, your driver licence or permit is suspended and you are prevented from getting another one for the period of the suspension. The length of the suspension is determined by how much you were speeding.

WOW, quite sever then. I suppose it must work in keeping the speed down...

Good luck to South Africa when they try implementing that - off to Checkers for a new counterfeit license!!

Sorry you got nabbed Ben - but slow down and enjoy the scenery and sunshine

have yet to reed all this thread but from the first pages i can say: "Thank you". this is am awesome thread!

This thread could go down in history, as the biggest ever! Go Ben.
Need you to post the horse trials updates, with pictures too, and no doubt some fine fillies! ;-)

Are you still on your UK licence? If so it's just a bigger fine and no demerits as it's too difficult for them...

Victoria is the worst; they've got the 2% variance to get everyone to drive under the speed limit. At least in NSW they have to have 3 signs up before the camera so you have a chance to slow down. Unless it was the Police who have decided to sit there pinging people for fun!

Out of interest, do they use a points based system similar to the UK, or is it just a hefty fine?

Points for an Aussie licence holder, but Ben may end up with a hefty fine instead if he's still on his UK licence. I had a NSW licence because it was cheaper insurance, and our van never went over 100kmh, and I didn't drive the 'Cruiser that quickly on the freeway to and from work.

With the Double Demerits I used to use those to know when the public holidays were...

What annoys me is I havnt once tried to speed. Had I been in a rush some where and been speeding fair enough. Had I been driving like a hoon or trying to see how fast the car will go, then fair enough. But I've actually been trying to stick to all the limits. :x

I read in the paper yesterday that their are 120 different agencies/companies/organisations in Victoria alone who can issue speeding tickets.

The bastards wont get me again though! :eusa-naughty:

I'm going to drive 5-10km under every speed limit, and if I cause loads of accidents withw people trying to overtake me then so be it!

6mph over the limit and £200 fine! :icon-evil:

Anyway............................rant over!

Feeling really happy today!

Finalised everything with the bonded warehouse guy yesterday! Container arrives in less than a week, so wont be long till I've got all my stuff back, and of course my beloved LandCruiser. :icon-biggrin:

The guy is also licensed to issue road worthy certificates and has said he will give me a certificate and tell me which is the best licensing office to take it to to get it registered! :icon-cool:

I already knew that all their products are cheap Chinese copies of other manufacturers products. :icon-rolleyes:

But looking at the bullbars and roof racks I wasnt impressed. A lot of the roof racks had already started rusting.

There is a TJM megastore not too far away so I'm going to call in next time I'm passing. Need to find out where the nearest ARB store is aswell. :icon-cool:

The weather has been gorgeous.

I cant tell if the bonnets/engine bays are longer than the LJ/KZJ70. The straight 6 4.2TD does look a fairly tight fit though.

P1020560_zps3c3cab9a.jpg

From memory the front end is a touch longer than a Bunderra/LJ/KJ70 but I'd not take that as gospel.

That's a bit newer than the Ute we had at work; it's got the chrome grill and also the 2nd fuel tank by the look of the dash top.

Is it a steel tray or an alloy? It looks like a steel one (Which is what we had on our work trucks as they look more load...), is it steel floored as well or wood?

Hey Ben, you've certainly got the portables sorted, that triple brush looks spot on!

Thanks Tony.

Now building a 3* church to go with the manor house. :icon-wink:

You made it back to the UK OK then? I bet it feels bloody cold! :icon-smile:

Yes, certainly a temperature drop!

Got through the day, long one, now gotta sleep. Keep up the good work, church for the manor sounds good.

Cheers,

Got the stable block finished.

Ben, they are superb, love the chapel and stables. Fancy a job over here? :icon-wink:

Ben, I think you may need to check the plans. You may have built the stables to the wrong scale. Pretty sure you won't get a horse in there.

Weather looks stunning. Day, after day, after day, after....

You'll soon be bored of that :icon-rolleyes: I know I am. We have the same weather here, day, after day, after day after .......

Chris
