It's strange this time difference, it's 07:30 for you Saturday morning and half past midnight here Friday night! We've just driven up from Bucharest to our house in the country. It was fantastic when we arrived, with the heavy scent of cherry and plum blossom in the air. Spring has really sprung at last. I'm even considering cutting the grass tomorrow! We're promised 30 degrees C plus tomorrow, so it will be a few beers and a BBQ for sure! Have a good day mate, some photos will be great.

No there different lengths.

They also list different UJ's for the front and rear props.

Are you sure Ben? I know there are 2 different part numbers for front and rear props on ToyoDIY but having had both of my props apart and compared them they are exactly the same.

I swapped my props round years ago and they fit fine on either end and Ive not had any problems.

It was a bit of blarney wasn't it! Didn't realize till you quoted it back to me! :laughing-rolling:

Its never tomorrow till you've been to bed and got up the next day! Today is yesterday's tomorrow, so tomorrow must yesterday's day after tomorrow, unless its after midnight! :icon-confused::icon-rolleyes:

Thats one heavy portaloo you were moving with tractors

I stand corrected then Dave.

I will buy both props off the guy in Geelong if hes still got the rear one.

Did both the UJ's on your front prop have grease nipples?

Like I said, only one of mine had a grease nipple.

Shopping!

The workshop is full of tractors that need servicing this week so I had to work outside.

P1040098_zpsf798b608.jpg

So yesterday morning I put both ARB air lockers in the boot of the Astra and set off for ARB headquarters.

P1040111_zps056ff5db.jpg

I explained the problem I've had with the air lockers and got given a business card for the manager who will be back in on Monday. So I'm hoping to come back then to discuss the problems and see what they say. :icon-smile:

Got myself a couple of free calenders.

P1040116_zps7960ca6a.jpg

P1040117_zpsc4bfff05.jpg

Also got a copy of ARB's latest magazine and a stubby holder.

P1040118_zps8ca92fb5.jpg

Off to TJM next.

P1040120_zps770e2a42.jpg

P1040121_zps9c16f710.jpg

Love the black widow drawers, must get some of those for my duel cab 70. :icon-cool:

P1040122_zps32b669f4.jpg

The last week has been stressful, sad and expensive.

So I decided to treat myself (and LJ) to a few bits and pieces.

I've been after a decent LED rechargeable torch for a while, and this one looked good and was a great price, less than £25.

P1040123_zps96c38446.jpg

Also bought a pair of the really good seat covers one of the guys in the club has in his 80 series.

P1040124_zpsafe781c5.jpg

P1040125_zps0da30b05.jpg

Also got some free stickers.

P1040126_zpsfeb995b7.jpg

Off to Toyota next to get the new oil seals, rad cap and price new diff bearings.

My list.

P1040105_zpsb9f6d239.jpg

P1040106_zps646a0d0a.jpg

Was looking at the FJ cruiser, still not sure I like it.

P1040127_zpsb5ace2de.jpg

Got a few seals and a rad cap. Had to order a few other bits.

P1040128_zps42fe876d.jpg

The latest models. :icon-cool:

P1040129_zps80f29c01.jpg

Came home and wanted to dig out my box of spare diff parts.

Ended covering everything in my storage area with my big tarp a few weeks ago as I noticed the roof was leaking.

P1040131_zps368a5b41.jpg

Would be the bottom box aswell.

P1040132_zpsa535e0ba.jpg

P1040133_zpsac746998.jpg

Box of diff spares.

P1040134_zps25970840.jpg

Also found the box with my spare oil seals in and a bottle of diff oil.

P1040135_zps8a90336e.jpg

P1040136_zpsdd362047.jpg

Fitted the new seat covers next. :icon-cool:

P1040137_zps54a6458b.jpg

P1040138_zps55095866.jpg

P1040139_zpsed08ee35.jpg

They've got cords down each side to tighten the covers around the seats.

P1040140_zps9c025e46.jpg

A zip up pocket on each side.

P1040141_zpsf1306aa2.jpg

And a larger unzipped one along the front.

P1040142_zps5d595871.jpg

Excellent storage on the back.

P1040143_zps00202744.jpg

Fairly thick map book fits perfectly.

P1040146_zps45a4405b.jpg

P1040145_zps7b10ca2c.jpg

The pockets around the seat will be very useful for keeping things in that I need regularly like my pressure gauge.

P1040147_zps70316862.jpg

Otherside next.

P1040148_zps8c6027c4.jpg

P1040149_zps4873f748.jpg

My Melway (street Atlas of Melbourne) is quite a thick map book, but it fits perfectly in the pocket on the back of the seat cover.

P1040150_zpsdbb9b827.jpg

P1040151_zps83e1aab4.jpg

P1040152_zps7610d383.jpg

I'm very pleased with the torch. :icon-biggrin:

Its flexible/bendy in the middle.

P1040153_zps76dbf1bf.jpg

1 button turns the end bank of LED's on.

P1040154_zpsca8a7c0c.jpg

Another button turns the others on.

P1040155_zps038c22d1.jpg

Can also have them all on at once.

P1040156_zps5b5cbbda.jpg

It has a handy hook on one end to hang it up with.

P1040157_zps671043f7.jpg

The other end has a strong magnet.

P1040158_zps50805f56.jpg

It fits nicely in the front seat pocket, ready for when I need it.

P1040159_zpse724820e.jpg

Came with 2 chargers.

P1040160_zpsb9267d11.jpg

The in car charger fits nicely in the other side pocket.

P1040161_zps43785191.jpg

TJM stickers. Not sure what to do with the big one(s). Might see what it looks like at the top of the windscreen.

P1040164_zpsec18dc91.jpg

P1040165_zps7f642f29.jpg

So I'm very pleased with the TJM products I bought.

Warn have brought out a new cheaper range of winches in response to all the cheap Chinese ones which the likes of 4WD Action, Tigerz11 and Roo systems are flooding the market with.

Called Tabor! :icon-cool:

I'm thinking I will get a 12,000LB one. Still not cheap, but significantly cheaper than there others.

P1040166_zps16a4cfa6.jpg

P1040167_zps2c3245e8.jpg

Got my calenders on my bedroom wall. :icon-cool:

P1040171_zps99d18ede.jpg

Then I came down the Peninsula to see Laura. :icon-biggrin:

I wanted to go to a newsagents to pick up a copy of the magazine which Tony S has been buying/reading lately which he has said is a great magazine.

While there I picked up a nice little magazine with some local 4wd routes in.

P1040172_zpsbb08de5c.jpg

And a copy of Pat Callinans magazine.

P1040174_zps47356eb9.jpg

P1040175_zpsbb6e4538.jpg

All I can say is WOW! :icon-surprised:

What a great magazine!

The quality is exceptional, the articles and photography are very impressive. :icon-biggrin:

If 4WD Action is a cheap, trashy, Razzle or Readers Wives then this is Playboy or High Society.

Very interesting article/letter on the first page.

I will try and find a copy of it online as not sure how clear the txt will be in the pic below.

P1040176_zps8d162bc8.jpg

P1040177_zpsa7300844.jpg

P1040179_zps26d9acc1.jpg

Nice article on the new duel cab 70.

P1040180_zps5b68ec5a.jpg

P1040181_zpsd100cae5.jpg

Will definitely be subscribing to this great magazine, thanks Tony! :icon-biggrin:

Nice shopping. That arb store looks very dangerous for credit cards :)

Nice seat covers apart from TJM logo and yellow beading trim they look identical to my ExplorerX seat covers. Same pockets and ties and reflectors on the sides.

Just bought the Pat Callinan mag too, really good, starting the plans to go and drive the Oodnadata Track soon

Thanks Andy.

Paul, I'm well up for that if you've got a spare seat?

I've just been reading about the Oodnadata trip in the magazine. :icon-biggrin:

Really like those seat covers, shame we cant get them over here :(

Nice seat covers apart from TJM logo and yellow beading trim they look identical to my ExplorerX seat covers. Same pockets and ties and reflectors on the sides.

Got a link for those Andy?

I always like the look of the Black Duck ones, but they were expensive!

I think I'm bringing our seat covers from the BMW over, and hoping they fit what we have next...

The time we went to ARB we nearly came away with a new seat because GF decided it was more comfortable than the 2 seater in the 'Cruiser.

Rough trax are 10 mins from my house so if anybody wants something picked up no worries and i can take to lincomb. will only cost you a beer .

These are the damaged ARB air lockers.

P1040211_zps2406c8e4.jpg

The pinion has quite clearly been hitting the ARB center.

I called ARB yesterday and arranged to go in on my lunch break and take the damaged lockers with me for them to look at.

I explained that the rear had been fitted by Devon-4x4 who are one of the main distributors for there products in the UK, and that the front had been fitted by an experienced engineer and I was there watching/helping. I explained that I know for a fact that the clearance specified in the ARB instructions, between the end of the pinion gear and the ARB center was correct on the front one, and that I'm sure Devon-4x4 would have fitted the rear one the same as they must have fitted loads over the years.

There response was that the clearance specified in the instructions is correct and that the lockers cant have been fitted properly, there is nothing we can do. :icon-rolleyes:

I asked if the damage will have weakened the ARB center and they said no. :icon-smile:

I explained that I was concerned that there may be swarf/chunks of metal inside the locker which I want to get out before they get re-fitted. So they explained how to strip them down and sold me a seal kit for re-building them.

I wanted to go and collect the new ring and pinion in person so I could check and make sure the new one is identical.

So the other night I removed the damaged pinion from the diff.

Made use of the big floor standing press to get the old bearing off.

I finished work an hour early yesterday so I could drive to Marks 4wd Adapters. Because of the shocking amount of rush hour Melbourne traffic it ended up being a 2.5hour round trip. :sleeping-sleep:

I was very impressed with the service and knowledgeable staff at M4wdA.

They have got a nice portal axle kit to bolt on the end of Patrol/80 series axles.

The kit apparently makes running 35" tyres on the road, legal. :icon-biggrin:

Anyway the new ring an pinion...............................

They give you a new flange because the splined end on the pinion is slitghly different to the original.

I asked where the R&P were made and he said they only buy R&P's from the US or Japan. With this being Toyota it will be from Japan, and I'm 99% certain it will be made in the same factory as the genuine ones. Its quite a specialist thing making R&P's and there arnt that many factories making them in big quantities.

He then went on to say that they wont buy anything from China or India, like some of there competitors do. :icon-biggrin:

I asked ARB about re-building the diff for me, but I want very impressed with how they spoke to me so not sure I'd really want to give them my hard earned money anyway. They also said there is a 4 week waiting list for fitting there products.

They did give the name of a few places I could try, as did Marks 4wd-Adaptors.

I want to make sure that whoever builds it does the job properly.

I'm also thinking of replacing all the Koyo bearings in the diff, so atleast then I know everything is clean and new and hopefully I wont have any problems with it for a long time/ever.

I'm off to Geelong this weekend if everything goes to plan to buy the prop shaft(s), and while I'm there I'd like to look in this place if there open:-

http://gearingdynamics.com.au/

I particularly like there CV joints with grease nipple on the end. :-

http://gearingdynamics.com.au/Greaseable-CV-Joint-for-Toyota-Landcruiser

There split CV boot, which doesnt really go around the CV like a normal boot, but actually goes around the ball swivel.

http://gearingdynamics.com.au/Split-CV-Boots-For-Toyota-LandCruiser-78/-79/-70/-80-Series

They also do a parking/handbrake a bit like the failed X-ENG ones.

http://gearingdynamics.com.au/Heavy-Duty-Brake-Upgrade-for-Toyota-Landcruiser

Still waiting for a few more oil seals and bits from Toyota. :icon-biggrin:

So I've nearly got all the bits together to get LJ fixed.

Hoping to strip down, clean and re-build the ARB lockers tonight, then I can give all the bits to my chosen diff builder. Think I've found some one, after asking some of the guys in the 4WD club who they would recommend. :icon-cool:
