Garage
I am looking at buying some new garage tools, at present the kit I have isnt tall enough to easily deal with the truck as it is sat on 255/85's and everything is at its most stretched.

These are the bits I am looking at:

Car jack:

Stands

or alternatively:

Ramps

Bottle jack

I'm also getting a 4 tonne bottle jack to keep in the truck as at the moment I have no way of changing a tyre away from home.

There are advantages of machine mart, I can get everything together, it'll be here quickly and we are vat registered, so I can claim 20% back.

Cheers

Not looked at the items you have listed, but MM normaly have a VAT free offer towards the end of the month. Probably worth waiting for that, which is what I am doing as I want a pillar drill and some ramps

My trolley jack is called a "Yankee". It's rated at 3 tonne, it's at least 30 years old, I bought it new and used it in my business. A quick check on google gave a price of £134.99 incl vat. I wouldn't recommend axle stands that fold. The MM stands look ok but get the wide ones. They will be more stable. Then again a google search will probably find something cheaper.

Is that a Sealey 'yankee' trollley jack, Roger?

I am happy to wait for a MM offer to come up, other than getting the garage to identify what the noise I've created is, I've saved enough by doing the brakes myself to pay for the tools, I managed to do the job with the tools I have, but it was all a bit too low for my back!!

I would like to look at the axle stands before I decide - there is a MM shop in Bristol so might go and buy the bits there if there's no online offer.

The MM website is way too inviting, all that good stuff......

Am trying to see if I can afford to build a garage in the garden at the moment, reckon I can fit in one thats 21' deep, 18' wide and with a 10' ceiling - its the ceiling is the issue though, my truck is over 7' tall, do need approaching 3' over that for when I jack it up with my new trolley jack!

I have those 6 ton stands. What can I say? They've never collapsed in use. Under my 90 or 125. And I probably abuse them because I have no flat, hard surfaces. I work on a bit of field. So I also ram plenty of old wheels under the chassis.

Like to know how folks get on with those ramps. I think they're quite new to MM because I don't recall seeing any rated at 2.5 ton/pair before. Be nice if they were 30 or 40 mm wider. I have 265 tyres.

I'm sure you know, but that VAT free thing at MM isn't really VAT free. It's just 17ish% off. You still get the VAT back. I got a 10 ton floor standing press on the last offer. Did my wheel bearing with it. Now need a pillar drill for removing trailing arm bushes a la Bob Murphy.

Well, need to adjust the rear handbrake pads and also change the o/s/f cv joint, so have given up waiting for an offer and have ordered the tools.

Page 1 of their website has a garage tent, quite etempted as its only about £350.00 !

Cheers
