Im RichieFromBoston. And this is my rig. I love overlanding and cant get enough of tight spaces and large obstacles.
We are all living in a steadily dying country with an egomanical govt. so get out whilst you still can.

Hi Ritchie, welcome to the forum. We're a friendly bunch here who love pics and videos, (just not so keen on thrash metal in this particular corner. :) ) otherwise enjoyed the vid, looks like you've given your truck some proper work outs.
Look forward to more on your truck and trecks.

Best wishes
Richard (Rich)

Great vid and a fantastic place you've got there at hand. Welcome to the forum, BTW

I've had a taste of what you're doing, but by no means quite that extreme. Especially a 4' rock step, that would be a challenge.

She was built up by an avid rock crawler in the west coast, then handed off to a colorado owner.found here way down to a military fly guy in ALA and I went down and rescued her. the second and third owner drove her, they discconected dual batteries aux fan etc. and I am currently building her back up to her former glory. engine was totally rebuilt at 200K and its only been 45k since. TRD S/C makes it very drivable as I picked her up sight unseen at 930 pm in Alabama and proceeded to drive her 1300 miles up to the north east

Well... it's not a competition, Ritchie...

But if it was, you'd win, I think!

What a beast. What a lucky beast to have such a committed owner. Bring her over to Africa one day.

Well done Ritchie. Good point putting the sweatshirt round the winch wire. Not so good attaching to that bumper and I'm hoping the people shown in the video were well out the way when you were winching. You were very lucky that bumper didn't come off. I hope there was nobody in your truck and the filming was done unattended.
A well seasoned 4x4 driver I know, son of a life long recovery operator had a webbing strap break and without anything but the strap flying, had it punch a hole in his windscreen.

Winching and recovery are some of the most hazardous aspects of driving a 4x4.

You've now made me want to get on installing my winch. :)

There is a much talked about 'slippery slope' with these trucks and the modifications that can be done. I think, just maybe, you could be at the bottom of that slippery slope. :)

Nice vid Richie, and a beautiful truck you have there.

As Richie from Bognor (Star Cruiser) said, winching is so potentially dangerous, but you recognized that with your caution.

I don't know what those little jeeps weigh, but you probably had less than a couple of tons of tension in that line, still it's enough to do plenty of damage with a sudden breakage or a shackle failure.

Drink and driving wherever you are don't mix and especially offroad, you need all your wits about you. As for recovery equipment, I can't believe they were trying to rescue themselves with luggage straps :?

Anyway, a good video, hopefully someone will benefit from watching it, and realize how dangerous it can be in the woods in an unfit vehicle with no recovery gear or knowledge of how to protect and recover yourself.

Keep 'em coming.
