Today is a very important day, It's the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt.
But it wasn't just the bowmen of Olde England that accounted for the defeat of the Froggies, it was the mud. There has been some bad weather that had made a mire of the battleground.
Of course the archers had a lot to do with it, but they were the peasants of England who couldn't afford to buy armour so were dressed in their normal clothes whereas the French were mainly the aristocracy who could afford armour, so when their horses were disabled and the riders ended up on foot wearing armour, in that sticky mud it was a major disadvantage and the pheasants who could duck and dive had the advantage so the clubs and knives went in, maybe that was where Corporal Jones got his saying from. If I am correct the Battle of Agincourt was where the first English soldier was killed by gunfire.
PS.
It's also my birthday!
