Who is doing what maintenance today?

Messing about with the rear diff locker actuator.......nice.
What you reckon are the chances of it ever working........................

Surprise surprise...I have my doubts as well..........................

Just a thought  If all the members donated a £1.00 I could have a new one

A bit of elbow grease I'm sure that will be as good as new

Better odds on the Euro lottery, Keith [/quote:37m2b5wm]

Think I'm more inclined to agree with you Andrew, but I'm going to have a play with it just in case I DON'T win the lottery

Keith, I don't think you even need to enter the lottery to have better odds than that actuator has of ever working again
Good luck though

Had a go at getting some life out of my actuator which is in far better nick than your Keith and I had no joy, due to time constraints I will be fitting a used one from Karl. Also removed the TC rear extension housing today ready for stripping tomorrow during lunch and after work.

I'd drop that in a bucket of diesel for a fortnight. Be like a new one.

Cough

Well it might.

Merlin the magician.

Stripped TC rear extension housing and found that the bearing has excessive play, hence why the seal when so quickly. You can only properly examine the bearing once it has been removed. 2 cirplics on order unfortunately

Today I checked all the fluid levels and thought it was about time I checked the tyre pressures too, nooo, the dust caps had attached themselves firmly to the valve stems, metal dust caps + metal valve stems = corrosion, even with a good dose of WD they could not be shifted, new valve stems to be fitted Fri (with plastic caps).
So what else, :confusion-confused: , I know  , fit the swivel recovery do-dahs I bought ages ago to the winch bumper, so got a 35mm hole saw, cut the holes, fitted the passenger side one

come to the drivers side one and it won't go in because the winch motor is in the way,

that Salisbury Plain mud covered bit is the winch motor, so the winch has got to be removed first, the bubbling stuff is black Dinitrol, not rust.

So I then got on with tidying up the wiring to the front spots, I also put some protective tube over the wires to the indicators in the winch bumper that were dangling loose.

at least I managed to finish one of my jobs, it looks very neat now all wiring hidden away in some plastic convoluted tubing

Very technical this one - I put a big mat black sticker on my bonnet to reduce glare when the sun is in the wrong spot.

Right, got the new valve stems in (with plastic caps) and of course the tyre shop tightened up the wheel nuts much too tight with their rattle gun :angry-screaming: so I took all the nuts off and put a bit of copper grease on the studs  (I've been told you shouldn't do this on wheel nuts, :confusion-confused: but it makes it sooo much easier to get them off next time) next job is to fit some more tracks in the back for lashing down to.
I've got a box of bits and pieces I've accumulated that need to be fitted, an LED rear number plate light, an inside/outside temperature thingy, some LED lorry marker lights that are going on the top of the tailgate as high level brake lights  an oil catcher, the list is endless, it's great that the good weather is with us now, :happy-sunny: I've got enough jobs to last all summer, better get started, winter will be here all too soon. :occasion-snowman:

Going to wire and plumb my twin air pumps in for a test. If the pipe arrives in time that is! Going to actually give it a wash too and get underneath with the under seal and tackle some of those areas that I found under the mud.

Might even get my X Lites wired in if I've time but I have to go down to High Wycombe on Sunday afternoon.

Chris

Plan on extending all of my breathers and finishing off the LED switch over of internal lights. Need to give her a good wash and vac and maybe just maybe will get to fit the PIR upgrade headlights if they arrive tomorrow.

Im loving these long afternoons, managed to fit a new centre diff actuator and it works!!! Also rebuilt the rear TC extension case and bolted it back on the TC.

I know mate. No time for Pimms I'm afraid. I have a date with a bunch of nurses and a pitcher of G&T by the Thames in Cookham
