Who is doing what maintenance today?

Had to put two new batteries on as the last Punipart (not my choice) ones decided to fail with very little warning. Got a pair of Bosch ones locally for £170 all in. Also checked the ATF level while it was hot and is not increased level at all like I thought, it's spot on the full mark. [emoji3] I have however bought a 4 litre Jag transmission oil cooler that I plan to fit in place of the wet cooler in the bottom of the rad before it fails and let's water into the 80s auto box, seeing as the rad is getting on a bit.

I think it'll fit [emoji120]

Changed the timing belt, idler and tensioner on the 120 today, nice and easy like the Colorado was.
while i was in there i changed the serpinitne/aux belt, I pencilled a quick diagram before taking the old one off. (ive been here before when my mate took his one off a l200 and tried many routes before figuring it out) so no squeaky belt when cold now:icon-biggrin:

Also left the bash plates off, i have some nice black two pack marine paint left over from a job that will smarten them up nicely.
thats the first thing on my list of big jobs to do on my Colorado timing belt

Fitted led interior lights today and front led side lights, well my son did he's such a good lad for helping he really is and only 13.oh the back interior light prong snapped off but we managed to get a small screw in it and reconnect it all good now and what a difference it's made,we can see now when it's dark as before the yellow lighting was very poor for interior lights.

Do you have a link Sag ? a bulb is a bulb to me so when i replaced all Helen's which were rubbish i took the bulbs to halfrauds and asked them to give me something better , they couldn't ?

eBay item number 320923302425 and go on his page he has loads and the rear light is the bigger one of this yes I didn't get the bigger one:oops:

Thanks for that i have them on watching i don't remember front and rear being a different size in the 3dr so i will have to check before i buy .

I changed the map lights for led aswell the difference is amazing they actually do want they were put there for

I replaced the festoon filament bulbs in the interior light units and also the puddle lights in the doors with LED's a while back. the extra light from the puddle lights is especially useful. I had a a spare 10w version of one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10W-20W-3...hash=item1c3aa9c97b:m:mbzfMzSv69BKM1g_HshghUA lying around unused so I took the LED out and fitted it in the roof console mounted map light and it's like daylight when it's turned on!

Jesus towpack I have one of theses lighting up my pond and back wall it's really bright,if you have that on going down the road people will think it's a ufo :laughing-rolling:

Try Woodypeck. I've done the same with headlights, reversing lights and interior lights. Literally the difference is night and day and you do have to measure the interior festoon bulbs. Also beware cheapies on eBay or the like.

Flushed the cooling system and changed the coolant today. Thought it was around 5 years ago it was last changed using long life (5yr) stuff but checked the records and it was 8! The old coolant looked exactly the same colour as the new stuff going in and had only lost 1/3 of it's effectiveness according to the hydrometer but changed it anyway. Was supposed to be having the rear window changed by Auto Windscreens yesterday but they turned up with the wrong glass, a bonded type which looked like it could have been for a 100 series. The fitter called his control and gave them the reg No. (as I had done when booking) and she brought up a red 5 door land cruiser Colorado. WTF! They're getting back to me tomorrow.

Dropped the Morocco oil on the overlander and gave it a nice soapy bath too. I even had a wipe round inside. It needs a warm sunny day really and a proper clean. Never going to look the same. Driving in the sea water has fnurked up the underside for sure. Salt seems to have got everywhere and all the underside is going orange despite all the protection it had on there.

Try spraying the underside with this stuff...http://www.acf-50.co.uk/marine.htm All the proprietary corrosion treatments make fantastic claims but, short of actually scraping off all the rust back to bare metal and re-priming/painting this is some of the best rust treatment I've tried. Not particularly cheap though.

I'll blast it first. I have a huge box of Dinitrol to use up as well.

Went to clean the throttle body as I suspect it's dirty again... however, the air intake pipe has splits in it... $140 for a new one from Toyota... so I think I'll be costing up another option using an idea from Yotatech tomorrow.

On the motorbike, we're still trying to work out exactly what the specification is on it... damn ex-Army kit... It's a 1991 Yamaha XT600EB, with a 3TB but not sure on that bit... there's some bits that tell us it's a 3TB, others imply a 3AJ....

Fitted some LED headlamp bulbs - wow what a difference! Just (literally) brilliant.

Now I already had Philips extreme vision 130%+ bulbs so pretty much at the top end of conventional bulbs. However the LED bulbs are something else. Very pleased. :-)
