Apologies if this isn't the appropriate place to ask this

Too pricey looking at others around the UK, sit on your money IMO.

I'm checking this one out at the weekend...

Have had a couple of useful chats with the seller on FB. Seems like a knowledgeable chap who's focussed on putting money into sorting the important things. Will see...

Looks good there Paul, however have a real good look and maybe take someone who knows these things. This has a fair mileage and has seen best part of 20 winters.

There is an ABC to remember when viewing a second hand truck.

Assume nothing
Believe nothing
Challenge everything.

Hope this helps.

Well we just so happening to be out for our first weekend jaunt with dogs in tow and he's near where we'll be visiting (Brecon Beacons), so could well be going out in one vehicle and coming home in two :).

I'm not going to be rash but I do like the look and feel of this one and price seems ok if work done is accurate (he' sent me lots of extra pics and has all bills). Sometimes have to to trust your instincts. Just need him to throw in the safari roof rack and that may clinch it :).

(and I appreciate I'm polluting the 80 forum, you're all being very kind on me)

Good luck with your search CB. You may get lucky, all sounds good but it could all fall apart when you look under it. As said, get someone to go with you that knows. Post up on the 100 section for anyone close to come with you. You'll be doing yourself a favour.

A couple of things to add:

If you don't need 3rd row seats and factory lockers (which probably won't work anyway) keep an eye out for a jap import - they come up often and don't usually have the rust issue.

There are several forums and Facebook groups specialising in landcruisers - there are often cars for sale. People selling on eBay and autotrader are usually full of BS and have little or no idea what they're dealing with.

Otherwise I'd just echo the points above - in particular, don't rush!

Well I made the trip down to deepest darkest Wales to check out the 100. Had a great few days with the family and the cockers on their first trip away. The bodywork is in excellent condition, though does have a couple of rust spots on the tailgate (I know this is very common).

It drove very well (the refurbished AHC worked really nicely), but there were a few things that weren't working which I think should have been made clear in the ebay ad (e.g. the rear diff lock which had been recently rebuilt wouldn't engage but he thinks it just needs a bit of adjustment), and a few other minor but odd things like the alarm system had been removed (or bust) and A/C not working etc. Nothing that couldn't be put right, but I'm looking for something needing a bit less work to get just right.

I'm also thinking I should look at the later 5-speed model as the grunt just wasn't there (though I've spent the last decade or so driving V8 or turbos like my LS430 and Supra TT). So maybe I just need to get used to the more sedentary life.

The seller's a really nice guy though and he really has spent a lot on some major rebuilding (has bills in the thousands). I'm sure someone more hands-on would sort out the little things, and no doubt laugh at my quibbles :).

But anyway, the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons are lovely! Could have done with the cruiser on some of the snow-covered roads we were on :).

So the search continues...

Interesting. What was it like underneath?

Interesting. What was it like underneath?

It actually looked pretty good. I didn't do an intensive inspection but set the AHC to high and had a crawl underneath around and no obvious rust spots or rot. He had carried out his own Dinitrol underseal a few years ago. By that stage though I'd decided that it wasn't the one for me so didn't dive deeper, but accepting the caveat that I'm not an expert on what to look out for on these things it looked good. I've certainly seen worse :).

It sounds genuine enough with all the time and money he's spent on it I wouldn't mind betting the rear locker does just want some tweaking and the AC a regas as they would be pretty low down on my 'to do' list.
Could be a good buy for somebody especially if the AHC has been well sorted and the underside well rustproofed.

Good luck with your search.
