blocking or removing the EGR

Hi All,
I'm looking for a solution how to deactivate the EGR (Exhaust gas
recirculation) on 1HD-FT in order to get better performance at lower rpm.
I'm not sure how ECU will react - I would like to avoid any dashboard
light flashing because of that.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Tomaz

Hi Tomaz,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
I generally just take the hoses from the EGR valves to the solenoids on
the inlet manifold and use one to short circuit the solenoids and one
to short cut the EGR valves, doing it that way you can easily restore
the functionality if you need to.
On some trucks I have removed the EGR valves completely (some people
think that the actual valves can fail causing a loop back of air, but I
haven't seen this yet). If you do remove the EGR valves completely you
will need to blank off the holes in the inlet manifold and the exhaust
and most importantly you need to add an earth strap between the two -
the pre-heater on the inlet manifold earths through the EGR valves.
As for the ECU, don't worry, there are no issues there.

Hi Julian,
thank you very much for the answer - If I understood correctly there is
need to block the inlet manifold by removing the gasket and replacing it
with metal part covering the hole. Is this correct ?
Best regards,
Tomaz

Hi Tomaz,
You don't need to do it, but can if you want to.

Hi Michael,
thanks for the photo - it looks you are using the same solution as
Julian suggested which is definitely the simplest solution (no egr
removal etc...)
