fuel filter replacement and the old fuel

what do you chaps usually do to the pint of diesel you drain from filter when you replace the fuel filter?
i have in past filtered it through a cloth and then chucked it back in tank, after waiting for it to settled and pouring it off to make sure there is no water in it

Just ad it to my waste cooking oil or engine oil to drop it in the oil burner. If you chuck it in the tank even with a small amount of water in it,it will only go back to the filter again so no big problem
