If you can see the sea (and maybe even if you can't) you might like to check out this website
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?level0=100
It gives you live data about the shipping in your area.
I live up at the far North West tip of Scotland and we get some interesting sights going past, oil rigs, wave power generators, floating wind farms not to mention the naval shipping, fishing vessels and tankers. So it's great to be able to check out what you just witnessed going past. Can be a bit scary when you check out the cargos.
In comparison check out the English channel :wtf: how busy is that !!!!

Enjoy!

Whoo! that's an interesting site even if you don't live on the coast.

interesting site - could have done with it a few weeks ago when i was sea kayaking, as we saw what we thought was a jack-up oil rig being towed, far out in the north sea, this website would have confirmed what the structure was!

Being on the coast its excellent. AIS is very cool

Certainly is...keeps my daughter quiet for hours

and yes Neil, that marine traffic site is also very good.
