Ground Tents..........whats your advice..?

I reckon you'd just about get that on the site halfway along Strata Chris

Not really that sort of tent is it. Lovely on a nice warm Summer hol though.

I think it would be purfect for us all to clamber into after a hard days driving Chris!!! We'd have to decide who was going to carry what though, eg the carpets, the candellabras (sp.) & the buddah!!!

While putting up a sun shelter for the kids today I decided to have a play with my new Quechua tent :) You know fit the guy lines, blow up the mattresses, have a lay down in it, then pack it all away ready for Lincomb :D

I have to say that I'm very pleased with my Quechua tent :D It's only 4.3Kg, sleeps 3 adults & was only £45 from decathlon before the prices went up (but now still only £69.99 :D  ). I've had a good go @ erecting it on a number of occasions now & can easily have it up & fully pegged in under 60 seconds :D :D :D It has internal pockets a hook for a lantern & a porch area :D All good as far as I can see

That Vango airbeam 300 jobby is 8.3Kg, takes 3min to blow up, but worst of all is £325.00

I'll stick with the Quenchua for now & when it breaks (if it breaks) buy another for £69.99  ;)

I picked myself one the Quechua tents up on Friday along with one of the shelters. I had a play with the shelter over the weekend but bottled removing the tent from the bag... Man, folding the shelter away was like wrestling an jelly covered angry hippo into a box of frogs!!!!

Well, it wasn't quite that bad but I had been advised that the tent is trickier - will have a play this week.

I have to say that for the money, I was really impressed with the quality of the tents on display at my local Decathlon

I am seriously considering one of these. It'd be great for Lincomb. Family might be coming. Even though Nick and I might share the challenge driving. (can't see missus sitting in a car with me as we go over the top of Rubie Hill never mind just going across the car park.

The wife has just bought one of the regular ones (not the deluxe) for the kids to play with in the garden (field). I put it up this weekend, and it was dead easy to do, and seems pretty well made. I'd personally definitely not go for the deluxe - with the regular you can unzip the groundsheet and roll up the sides, useful for hot whether, and TBH it's quite heavy enough without the extra 8.5kg!

If you want any other info about it or pics let me know.

I wish we had a field... :(

They do look great tents - loads of fun. Could you see yourself camping in one for a few days Piers? What sort of a bag size does it pack down to?

Cheers

The bag's about a metre long perhaps a foot in diameter. Bloody heavy though - I doubt the wife would be able to carry it any distance on her own.

I'd definitely be prepared to camp in it - plenty of room for the whole family without kicking each other in the head. I do worry a little how cold it'd get at night though compared to a regular/smaller tent, given there's such a massive space inside. But then it's a long time since I camped, and I don't know if I have a decent sleeping bag to keep me warm!

OK then, time for a 6 person family tent

Been looking but can already not see the wood for the trees :!: :!: :? :)

I got myself what I consider an excellent tent the first time I asked for your help and it has been great and had much use in all kinds of weather, but time to get the family out there so need something larger this time :)

Any advice or pearls of wisdom would be very much appreciated again  :D

WHY :?:

2 Tents

Kids in one tent you in the other.

Then they can put up there own tent 50% less work.

Mine and the wifes setup. Outwell Vermont LPLove this tent but I would say its probably only big enough for 2 (Well if you like luxuries) Easy big enough for 4

I am also looking at tents. Very tempted by the Vango Airbeam range. No poles, just inflate and job done

http://www.vango.co.uk/vango-airbeam.html

Vango make good tents, and if I was in the market for a new tent it would be either one of these airbeam tents, or for a longer term investment a canvas tent (Oztent RV, Blackwolf Turbo, etc).

The second tent option is one that I've thought of to compliment the 3man Quechua pop up tent that I already have. Perhaps with a second matching tent or one the same as the one that Crispin had @ Lincomb when I was last there, a 4man Quechua pop up tent with a very generous porch area. But after much consideration what I need is something that will accomodate the whole family for 2/3 long weekends away over the next 4/4 years. I had been considering the Quechua 6.2XL but 'am being a little swayed toward the Outwell Montana 6P with its fully fitted ground sheet in the living area.

What I already have

Could join those top two together with one of these  :)

Steven if the quality of the montana is as good as the Vermont I have is I would say go for it.Fitted groundsheet is a must in my opinion. Advantage if the Vermont over the Montana is you also get the additional Living/cooking/porch space which has a fitted/removable groundsheet. We find this bit great for cooking and use the main living space (with outwell carpet) for when it gets to cold to sit outside. The front porch bit is easily big enought to sit 4 round a table and still have room for camp kitchen then we have our comfy chairs (With beer coolers) in the main bit. Not sure how many you need to accomodate for but the double bedroom will comfortably house 2 adults and we have had 6 kids in the other side.

For a large tent you would be hard pushed to beat Outwell for quality.

You could also look at the canvas bell tents for ease of putting up, hard wearing material and loads of space. Not much privacy though. I like th ones Sooulpad are doing with the zipped optional groundsheet.

Outwell does keep coming up as the name to be with regarding larger family tents, they even rate them on Mums-Net :)
