Guiness World Record Attempt

Can you email it to me please Ed?

Awesome, thanks mate.

Great article and nice to see I got a mention! :icon-biggrin:

I will scan a copy of the article and post it on this thread. :icon-wink:

My scan not good enough, or was the upside down page a problem?

I'm not sure really Chas!

In total I would say hes probably got about $10k in it!
That's really surprising, I expected it to be a lot more.

We get sent all the Australian 4wd, camping and caravan magazines at work as we advertise in a lot of them, but some how I missed the article Ed spotted and posted a link to above. :icon-biggrin:

Found it today and got it scanned. :icon-cool:

At least yours is the right way up... my scanner at work didn't like me...

It was a good write up; I only skim read it at first, so missed your name-check, but when I read it again I found it!

Yeah good article! Not hugely accurate but still good. :icon-biggrin:

Will get Stu to come out once we've got it all assembled with the new paint job and solar panels and get another magazine article. :icon-cool:

We dropped the car off at the panel shop today and he said we can have it back in about a week. Hes going to bring a colour sample in for us to confirm were happy with the bright yellow hes thinking of using.

We picked up the cage and tubes from the powder coaters on the way back and they've been coated a nice shade of grey which should match the wheels nicely.

thats a nice offer Ben thanks
Just to let you know though i only fly first class if somebody else is paying!!

Stu

Back From Paint Shop!

We picked the cage up from the powdercoaters.

The guy at the panel shop dropped us off a sample of the paint for us to confirm we were happy with the colour.

He called Friday morning to say hed painted it the previous evening and we could go and pick it up.

So we shot round there and we were both ridiculously excited to see it!

I got straight on with putting it all back together and didnt take any pics as I was working flat out to get it all back together!

I was having heaps of fun seeing it all come together!

Right up to the point where I cracked the windscreen putting it back in. :angry-screaming:

P1081632_zpseykbjut5.jpg

My boss was totally cool about it and I was actually a lot more pissed off than he was.

He said hed book our windscreen guy to come and fit a brand new one.

Next I wanted to fix the only thing I wasnt happy with on the whole build, something that was purely cosmetic but that I just wasnt happy with!

The airfilter housing wasnt sitting level!

P1081633_zpsxzv5g5or.jpg

P1081634_zpspow5tftc.jpg

I had to remove 2 of the batteries to get to one of the mounting bolts.

P1081635_zpsuqq33ubm.jpg

P1081636_zpsqajuqv7j.jpg

Removed these bits.

P1081637_zpswnhnwwy8.jpg

Drilled some new holes.

P1081638_zpsmtholg4q.jpg

P1081639_zpsabf1tj6v.jpg

All re-fitted with the air filter sitting nice and level.

P1081640_zpszm3pafmk.jpg

P1081642_zpsjk3ikhct.jpg

I fitted the cage next.

P1081645_zpswakk3ahq.jpg

P1081646_zpslyhaxcka.jpg

P1081647_zpsntvhymjl.jpg

It was then time to fit the solar panels to the roof.

Out of curiosity we weighed the panels in their alluminium frame.

P1081643_zpsxrjxthty.jpg

Then fitted it on the cage.

P1081648_zpsdtq1yeuk.jpg

P1081649_zps1plpj6vu.jpg

Fitted the bonnet.

P1081650_zpspyls579k.jpg

And finally the bonnet panels.

Theres still a few bits to refit like the front bumper, wheel arch flares, central mirror, new windscreen, wiper arms and a few little bits.

We need to pull the rear diff out and fit a lockrite.

And send it off to the company we use who help us build some of our more complicated electrics, who will build us a computer to monitor everything.

Then it just needs the stickers/graphics to go on of the sponsors names. :icon-biggrin:

My boss says hes now in about $12-15 grand but is confident it will generate $100,000+ worth of advertising! :icon-cool:

Optima yellow, a very appropriate colour!

Looking forward to how it performs in the desert... Great work Ben

It must be a great feeling to be involved in this exiting project Ben, I remember getting that feeling of job satisfaction when I worked for a theatrical company building lighting equipment and something I had built was used in a West End production. Some of my stuff was used in shows like Cabaret, Hair, Evita and a lot more.

Thanks guys.

Yes very satisfying Chas.

When we first started I wondered if it would even work and if it would end up looking OK. Thankfully my boss has given me pretty free rein to design and develop it how I have. Its great to be so trusted and have so much freedom. :icon-biggrin:

Little Update.

I found some self adhesive non slip tape that we some times stick along rock sliders and thought it would be perfect to cover up a couple of holes in the tops of the sills and to stop the paint getting scuffed.

The auto electricians have now wired up all the panels so we are keen to do another test run with the trade plates as we havent tested it with the new motor configuration, extra batteries in the back and solar panels on the roof. :icon-biggrin:

We also need to get the screen fitted and all the sensors to monitor amps, volts and temps of all the batteries and the motor.

And were going to get the seats re-upholstered.

Looking good Ben (err, I thought you were on holidays in Tazzie?)

Thanks Clive.

Yes I am but found a few spare minutes this morning while the Mrs was getting ready, so thought id get the update up. :)
