Help! Fuel tank

Well uk supplier (Devon 4x4) who deal with long ranger can't get a main tank.

Long range automotive in Australia have quoted $1795 including shipping to the UK ($620), £926 at current exchange rate. Obviously vat and will be an import duty on that too.
So probably all in around £1200 for a 140L main tank.

Desicions desicions!!
Any putty repair imo is a temp fix.

2nd hand tank, get this tank welded are options.

Looked at the larger tank while my hand is forced into doing something with it.

If its out I'd try my luck with a radiator repair company. We had lots of tanks repaired with a steel patch soldered in place in the past at Arthur Fox and Co in Sheffield ( now gone) but I guess there are others who would do the job. It might be a stop gap job but it will give you the opportunity to treat the rest of the tank.

Is it the TLC80FR-PA? Maybe see if getting it from the states might be an option, and go for the aux tank at the back at the same time, no need for the jerry cans then:grinning:

Yes that's the one, made in Aus by long range automotive. The tank itself including vat is about £720, will be import duty which I've sent a quote request to HMRC for. If can get the shipping for less as quoted $620 could well be an option.

Exchange rate is on my side currently and the wife hasn't said no.

I think you'll find that it will be £1200 without VAT and import duty.

I've never used them but these people seem to have a good reputation in the boat world.

Wonder what the fuel water split tank looks like / costs.

@steverjuk The Mosely unit Is similar to the LRA unit, more expensive item from the USA.

@Shayne The ARB one listed on e bay is a sub tank was the reply I got not a main tank. Came across that one and got giddy Haha

@guyc the tank itself is $1175 plus the shipping, exchange rate is very favorable currently $1 is around 0.52p
HMRC have said 5% import duty on top of the vat.

I can potentially get shipping cheaper but a massive issue currently is restrictions imposed due to covid 19! Seems trying to get a package from Australia to the UK is a no go!!!

I thought shipping may have been cheaper from the USA.

It's not far off the same tbh plus exchange rate not anywhere near as good, tank is more expensive too.
Restricted imports too currently!

Exploring many options before end up repairing or replacing a stock unit.
Wife doesn't say no but struggling logistical wise to spend it haha

Sorry - I misread the bit about shipping being included.

Jay Wolfe (shop4tanks) is based in Northampton and I'm sure would be competitive.

Earlier this year I ordered a couple of Pedders HD rear trailing arms from a 4x4 'specialist'....yeh I use the term with caution here in Spain, when they arrived the void bushes had been installed incorrectly. I explained this to the specialist and he had no idea what I was talking about! Anyway after photos and explanations Pedders in Oz agreed it was a factory error and agreed to send replacements.......still waiting!

Well my tank is currently with a man in shed who is going to weld it up. I've got no chance of getting one from out of the uk currently!

This is the crack, looking from the front of the tank. Could only see it after cleaned the paint back.

Known issue on mud and seems to affect petrols, at first I would have said damage but it's the shape its formed!!

Is it possible that the action of the pressing in that area thins the metal too much as it has now been highlighted as a common problem?

When i re fitted my tank on the 12v I stuck 3mm thick rubber Pads on the corners and areas where Rubbing might occur... And renewed the rubbers for the Tank straps ... Just a thought Mate!

Apparently that's the case, it's a non contact area and it literally looks like it's been pinched. Any info with pics I've found it's the same crack pretty much.
No corrosion in that spot, fuel tank breather system all spot on etc. Poor stamping and fatigue
