Hi has anyone here changed one these before if so do you have any tips ? If you do it would be greatly appreciated mine is a 11/96 manual with 270k km on the clock
 
Is it the high pressure reinforced hose thats crimped onto the metal line that crosses the front cross member?

If it is then you would have the new line crimped on, a hydraulic line specialist could easily re crimp them together. I don't think a jubilee clip will be sufficient on the high pressure line, fine on the return line though..
 
Yes thats the one, I have a new genuine one coming just wondering if there are any tips on getting it out

I've done one on a diesel, after disconnecting the hydraulic hose banjos and hoses to the PAS reservoir, there are some hard pipe clips that bolt into the inner chassis both sides at the front, get those off. There is another bolt on the top horizontal surface of the lower front crossmember and finally split the pipe holder at the front so you can separate both pipes.

After the pipes are separated, you are looking to remove the top one first by rotating down and pulling out from the front. Its all a bit fiddly but doable, the crimps and banjos do fit through the gap above the front crossmember, do the same for the lower set. A couple of swear words will see you through.

Refitting is the opposite, feed in through the front one at a time.

I got my local agricultural place to put new hoses on with compression fittings and a spare set just in case.

Great thanks, I am glad it can be done without pulling the radiator out, as I put a new one in Saturday and didn't really want to have to do that again!, I have a new genuine pipe coming but I couldn't have the old girl off the road that long waiting for it.
 
If you look in the back of the workshop manual there's a list of cock ups and which swear word to use on each occasion. I just use the one that fits all. Good luck.

Trevor, another question, would a bull bar on the front make life difficult doing this job?

I did mine while my bumper was off, that said I've just looked at mine with the ARB bumper on and you should be fine. It's handy to have a second person helping, one at the front while the other feeds the hoses past stuff as you do the downward rotation.
 
Great, thank you for your insight and assistance, if you are ever out this way let me know I am in Perth. I noticed in other posts those salted road over there in winter are brutal on the old champions, mine had zero corrosion anywhere until I moved to Perth 5 years ago, just getting a little bit on driveline parts but the body is fine, it had spent 20 years until then roaming the eastern goldfields of Western Australia where it is as dry as a lime burners boot 90% of the time, that said when it does rain, it really rains, That sort of corrosion over there you only see on toyota's used underground, hypersaline water you can litterally watch them dissovle in front of you.
