Lincomb, May 2012

Hope you got a place free!

I've been planning to come to the last couple of meets but it has always clashed with some other function. This time I gave SWMBO advance notice and said keep the weekend free. Well guess what, not only has she kept it free, now the whole chadr clan want to come along! :o

Now, we've never been to a Lincomb meet before, though it doesn't feel that way; I've read a lot about and seen dozens of pics...so we are hoping be able to experience firsthand what all the fuss is about ;)

You won't regret going. It's an ace gathering with a great bunch of ppl. Just steer clear of Matt and Gav circa 2am cause thats when they start their tribal dancing...

Hoping to make this one but not sure I'll have my 80 sorted in time...

Sorted Ryan? What's to do Lad? Can we assist in any way. Can't have a Lincomb without your adventurous driving.

Chris

That depends Chris, how good are you at laying wooden flooring, have some painting to do too... All this before Swambo will let me play with the cruiser again. But can only do it on weekends... Blah blah ....

Biggest thing I need to do is get the suspension done with the extended mounts, possibly a body lift if there isn't enough space to move them up and then extended brake lines, bump stops sorted but need time for that, which at the moment I'm lacking... Que violins...

Matt has a spare body lift kit - Mrs Matt has forbidden him from fitting it. Not a massive job, but time consuming. Nah, bumps stops 20 mins. That doesn't count as an excuse. Flooring - not bad. Painting???? Wosdatden? :?:

Chris

Looks like the Missus isn't going to be able to make it. Due to surgery. Hey, her loss, eh? Fortunately looks at though Clean and Green Nick will be able to ride shotgun for me. Nice to have someone reliable around.

Ping me if you need a lift kit Ryan ;) I can pop up and help you fit it - on a weekend of course ;)

See y'all there..

Hi guys and gals,

No long to go now, so please confirm if you are coming if you haven't already. Just need to get an idea for food etc, and organising the weekend.
Just been talking ideas thru with Ian,but all is looking good, and there will be a few new surprises for the weekend!

See you soon,

Cheers,

I'll be there for Saturday only and the pig roast Tony, not taking part in any off-roading though, no Cruiser :( , but it is a Toyota

Unless the World ends, I shall be there from Friday at around Gin O'tonic til after lunch Sunday.

Chas, if Nick can't make it, tha can cum round me, me owd duck.

Wife and I will be there - got to do a round trip via the east midlands on Saturday morning. If it all goes pear-shaped it will be in a mazda-shaped land cruiser

Cheers Chris, I'll look forward to that

I am hoping to make it this year, the only problem is i'm not sure so is there any way i can just turn up on the day and partake in the activities, well watch other people taking part coz my 80 is completely standard,so hopefully i'll pickup some ideas and get to meet all you nice folk on this forum

You can turn up whenever you like and do as much or as few of the activities as you like. A standard 80 is a very capable off roader and you will have no problems taking part without risk of damage (if you are sensible). Some people turn up just to socialise and for the excellent hog roast

It costs nothing to stand and watch. You can wander around, chat, drink tea, swap stories and the like. As long as you understand that if you decide to have a play at anything, you'd be expected to cough up the day fee at least. If you want to come, not drive, but camp and come to the braai, then there is a charge for that too; it's just what's fair. There is plenty to do in a std cruiser. Much of the punch challenge is in rolling farm land with diversions around any 'tricky bits'. There is no compulsion to do anything that you don't want to do. But it's very easy to get carried away and go beyond what you might be advised to do. Most of us have had a ding here or there after being a little too enthusiastic. Almost all our own fault entirely.

It's a fantastic weekend if you like cruisers. Come and join in.

i think the tennis ball challenge has been responsible for quite a few dings.

a few of us, including myself have reversed into trees, and Gav decided to try and drive through the trees!

it is always a great weekend though.

Well I hit a tree and then the next time a tree hit me. I drove onto the roots of a small tree with a punch on. I was the first vehicle in and the weight of the truck on the roots pulled the trunk into the same wing I had straightened earlier. Clearly that wing is not meant to be straight.

Gav, tennis balls, scratches? Really?

The tennis ball challenge is responsible for all my dents :-(

The Prince and (George) Mcdonald families will be there - will sort the form and payment this weekend

Ill be popping in for a day not sure if its will be with the family or not and not sure if i will have the cruiser or not but need to pickup and drop off a few bits as well as say hello.

If no family members are joining me and there is a passenger seat going spare then i would be happy to pay my way and help the winning team to victory.
