Who can calculate this correctly:-

4+2x3 =

I along with a Blackberry phone apparently got it wrong.

Dave.

18 ain't it? Or are we supposed to be working out 4+(2x3)?

It's 10, you always multiply before you add.

Google BODMAS for order of operations.

The modern answer is 10, back in the sixties we were taught to add or mutliply in sequence, amazingly if you use a Blackberry phone you will get 18 an Apple phone will give you 10.
How confusing has the world become these days...

Dave.

Yep BODMAS rules - ever since I was 9 and had that (literally) beaten into me
Brackets
Of
Divide
Multiply
Add
Subtract

Simples... ;-)

Most cheap calculators, those you buy for 3 to 20 £, have never heard of bodmas. Maybe they are intended to learn kids to do the thinking themselves. Technical calculators do it the right way. It's fantastic, and surprising, that the fruity phone does it right.
