Really?

Unlike LC, within RR there is a section who thinks FFRR is ‘The RR’ rest are … was reading through RR forums and got that impression

Surprisingly fast lard arse but it won't make it over the first hurdle :laughing-rolling:

@Raj Raj, Why would you want to buy a FFRR when you've got a LC200!

Bodie it’s for my friend. Landcruiser is way out of his budget so he set eyes on RR. Finally the Mechanic said not to go near it.

The G Wagen is the probably the only SUV that started life as a military vehicle. Mercedes obviously jumped on the fashion wagon by fitting them out with luxury interiors and V8 power so they could handle the school run.

No Shayne any landcruiser. He was looking for a post 2007 SUV in 6-8K and any decent LC is out of question at that price. RRs are available.

I'm struggling to understand the current prices on Landcruisers, Dedenders, G-Wagons etc..... normally in the past, when there's been fuel price hikes, people 'get shot' of the guzzlers!!!

Reactions: Raj
In fact a 4x4 specialist around here, who's been going for over 20 years, has recently shut up shop because he's been struggling to move stock, mainly because his customers keep citing fuel economy!!

cost him that much again
Agree. Looking at my LC spend he’s thinking LC is expensive to maintain but I am mad LC lover so I am not good reference :) None of what I spent was needed, it’s just my obsession

Age effects everything but if you repair or replace it on an LC then you can forget about it for another 20 years .

Raj, not obsessive mate, you did the right thing with the rust and ahc issues to keep your lc in top condition, holding value and increasing longevity.
If that's obsessive, we are all guilty in one way or the other !

With other two cars also I have this habit. After yearly service, immediately I ll get all the oranges and reds in health check sheet repaired. With LC it’s a bit more :) when Ever I get time I am crawling under the Truck

Enthusiasts will always justify keeping their hobby vehicles no matter what the fuel costs, its what they (I) live for. I haven't yet seen an advert for a Cruiser which said "due to fuel costs".
Not all Cruisers are going up, only the top end examples, and the best Collie in the country shouldn't be more than £5k, and there's a lot out there that aren't worth £3k. Most 120's aren't worth £7k realistically because of the rust issues.
80's seem to have attracted " Icon" status, there are very few solid survivors out there and very little on the open market to choose from, no ones selling what they can't replace. Therefore prices are seemingly strong.
There seem still plenty of 100's still about, from £4k to £20+k, all dependant on condition/ year etc.

I went out in the 80 on the weekend, did a few miles @ 32p/mile for fuel and considered it good value for money for the smile it gave me. A good one still takes some beating.

Andy, I totally agree on that front, I am one of those hobbiests...... and I also get that smile per mile feeling every time I jump in the 80!!
But those hobbiests only account for a very small percentage of owners. Most 4x4s are daily runners or work horses. Having owned over 40 Defenders, 110s, 130s over the years for work, I sold the last one a few months ago, because they are just not cost effective to run. Even the poor, cash strapped!! farmers are thinking twice.
I do understand, that not all model values within any marque are going skyward, like the Landrover Discos. But there are hundreds of Defenders for sale, yet the prices are still rising, the 'supply and demand' rule doesn't seem to apply here!

The alternative is to buy a pickup truck which won't fit the bill for many .

but what is the alternative if you want 4 wheel drive, reasonable load space/comfort and the ability to tow 3.5 tonnes?

the relative simplicity, reliability and ease of maintenance of 90s era vehicles is still sought after by those in the know for good reason.

even the newest all singing all dancing vehicles that meet the 4 wheel drive, reasonable load space/comfort and the ability to tow 3.5 tonnes criteria are not overly frugal. plus they have high road tax, questionable long term reliability and expensive repair costs that are for the most part beyond the scope of the average home mechanic.
