The Prado currently has 255/85R16's fitted - BFG MT's.

I've had a quick look on tinternet, but it doesnt answer my question....

Would same size Grabber AT2's give me the same height tyre?

I love the ride height, but am struggling with the MT ride quality.

Dont think I can afford 5 BFG AT's !

Pete

Only tyres I can find in that size are MT's.

What would a comparable tyre size be?

Pete

Try this site. http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual ... calculator Type in current size and the put alternatives in the other side.

In answer to that Q 285.75.16 are similar but they are wider and may catch. Sure you don't just need to play with the pressures though?

Chris

PS I would love first refusal if you decide to sell the tyres. I was going to buy them off Nick before he sold the truck!

What pressure would you use for normal road use?

Dont think its that though, they dont feel smooth and there is a lot more noise than AT's, and tbh I dont do any mud plugging that AT's couldnt cope with.

Got a shock when I checked the price of these BFG MT's !!

Will have a look at that site, thanks.

Pete

I know chris has jumped in with a first refusal request if you are selling, Would you consider a P/X with some nearly new GG AT2's still around 12mm tread and the spare has not been use which has 13mm. 265/75/R16, 1.5inches different so .75 diff in ride height

Chris you bugger, Got in there first. Does that mean I should know my tread depths off by heart and not have to waste time going outside to check.

I this message is out of line please say so and I will retract immediately

I think you're right Chris, 285/75R16 are the same dimension, but 30mm wider.

The truck has 30mm spacers already, otherwise that could have been the answer.

want to stick with the current alloys so going for a higher offset not the answer.

Not out of line, just not very ethical. Public trumping is frowned upon in most civilised countries.

I helped to create this this truck and was sad to see the previous owner have to part with it. We were going to do something on the tyres and then it all went a bit Pete Tong.

Chris

Here's something prety sad I did for myself

These are the common tyre sizes used on your truck :)

265/70/16 30.61/10.43/16 standard fitment

265/75/16 31.65/10.43/16 increase in diameter over std fitment 26.42mm extra ground clearence over std fitment +13.21mm (+13.21mm)

305/70/16 32.81/12.00/16 increase in diameter over std fitment 55.88mm extra ground clearence over std fitment +27.94mm (+14.73mm)

285/75/16 32.83/11.22/16 increase in diameter over std fitment 56.39mm extra ground clearence over std fitment +28.19mm (+00.25mm)

255/85/16 33.07/10.04/16 increase in diameter over std fitment 62.48mm extra ground clearence over std fitment +31.24mm (+03.05mm)

This of course make no allowance for how these tyre sizes are effected by rim width & inflation pressure :D

Chris  Didn't you have some Cooper ST's in the 255/85 size :?:

No Problem Chris. Was just putting another option out there. I will bow out.

I have three Steve. Two on alloys and one on a steel spare. The other two were burned.

I can wait until Spring when I am assured that STs will be available again but in a stroke of genius, the old ATs that were my daily tire have all decided to go to Valhalla leaving me with an oddball mix of STs and BFG MTs on the truck. Yes all in 255. I also have my Blutack silly terrains which give me a phenomenal 13 mpg. By the time I get some STs the thwo I have will probably be toast leaving me needing 4 at least. I have loads of wheel and loads of tyres. Just not all the right tyres on the right wheels

Hey Chris - don't worry. Pete hasn't offered them for sale yet of course and he has the absolute right to do what he wants anyhoo. First refusal is only polite way of asking.

Chris

Looks like Cooper Discoverer ATR's might do the trick, think the ST is probably similar to the BFG MT's.

Shame there isnt an AT2 in the size.

Didnt realise the bfg's are narrower than my old 31x10.50R15's.

Pete

The ST is nothing like the KM2. And is not available in the UK anyway at the moment.

Why not go go back to stock size at 31"?

You may be confusing the Cooper S/T with the Cooper Discoverer STT, that looks like this

It's only the 255 that's narrower the 285 would be wider :D

That's seven inches just in case you can't see the numbers on the tape :)

So....

The Cooper S/T's are less of an aggressive mud tyre than the STT's.

They still look more mud terrain than the Grabber AT2 or BFG AT's.

Are they available in the States or in Europe ? I got the info of the cooper website.

The ATR's look like they could be more appropriate - I'm thinking long journeys on unmade roads rather than mud-plugging.

I really want to stick to 33" if I can.

Shame the GG AT2's arent in 33", that would be my 1st choice, always been happy with them.

Cheers for the photo's, helps a lot.

The 285/75/16's are prety much a 33" tyre, they are only 6mm less in diameter than the 255's and so only 3mm lower!!! :D

I would have thought that an A/T tyre is less likely to rub due to the extra width compared to an M/T tyre

Have a search, I can't believe that no one on here has not fitted an 285 A/T tyre to their 90.

edit - do they do the General Grabber AT2 in a 285/75/16 then :?: :shifty: :)

The ST is halfway between an AT and a MT. And is not available at all at the second. Unless you happen across some old stock. Production moving from El Mecheeho to France for availability in the spring.

I think the ST in 255 would be an awesome tyre on a Colorado.

I think Chris Green90 may have that size fitted from his sig and previous posts.
