Spent most of the day working on the Silver Phoenix. MOT due today and in a vain attempt to get up to the garage today, I set to at 07.30. Nah, was never going to happen. Thanks a million to Karl and Landcruiserparts.co.uk for rushing me some bits I needed - they made short work of the bits I broke off road last weekend. But I knew the handbrake needed its annual fettle. Oh Lordy was that a mess. Solid with clay and shale. I got it all cleaned and working but despite adjustment it's just not holding the truck. Time for new linings I thing. It got new pads all round too. I have to say the Miler Ceramic ones have been excellent. They stopped better than anything else I have had and have lasted longer too. Off roading kills pads and a set of OEM lasted me only 1000 miles. The body looks battered I guess but underneath (under the mud) is really really good. That's the Cruiser by the way not me.
Checked the front end too and one bearing needed nipping up. Plus a full de-mudding in the brakes. The ABS sensors all came out and had a clean but I just can't clear the ABS light. I need to run the test to see what it it. I have a brand new front sensor if it's that but no spare rear ones. I have to say that I am very tempted to compare the GS to this VX and see how easy pulling the ABS out might be. I probably need pipe and flaring tools etc but it has to be better than faffing around with the ABS.
Brakes are all over the place and probably need bleeding and a bit of a work out. So, MOT next weekend maybe? We shall see what tomorrow uncovers.
I hae to wonder just how long I can realistically keep this one. I love being in the mud just easing past stricken Discos, cigar in hand and a smile on my face, but having 2 80's is bordering on greedy and expensive. I'd like to resurface the drive too and I can't whilst ever I need to keep servicing the bog gobbler. I guess there is a chance this could be its last Lincomb. I'd better get it up 'that' hill.
